I’m addicted to talking to younger (or older) people interested in applying to the school program I finished last year. It’s one thing you can do to actually impact someone!!!! For those of you nervous about networking, just know the person you’re contacting might be like me (really excited to talk to you).

i’ve been very lucky to have had a self sustaining network of mentors but the first one i got through my alumni network by asking a professor! ask around! reach out! i haven’t worked with some of these people in years but they bring my name up when it could make a difference and i just landed a really neat opportunity because of it. remember to say thank you and turn around and do the same for the littles come up behind you ◡̈

I convinced my fav professor from undergrad to be my mentor despite many objections from her about “I don’t mentor students blah blah blah” and now 5ish years later it’s the best thing I’ve ever done for myself. Now I just get to hang out with someone I adore and admire on the regular and it just makes my heart soar every time we catch up. What a treat!

getting to learn from someone with a lot of wisdom and experience in your field feels so so special <333 feels primal somehow, too - i think it activates the part of my brain that evolved to absorb oral histories

If you’re within an hour walk from home, you should just walk home. I understand taking public transit or an Uber there to be on time, but you’re not rushing to get home. Thus, walk.
be out with the old and in with the new!! you do not need to follow someone you met once 7-10 years ago.
