I convinced my fav professor from undergrad to be my mentor despite many objections from her about ā€œI don’t mentor students blah blah blahā€ and now 5ish years later it’s the best thing I’ve ever done for myself. Now I just get to hang out with someone I adore and admire on the regular and it just makes my heart soar every time we catch up. What a treat!

dailey the big realization is that relationships like that don’t happen ā€œorganicallyā€ in the way you imagine it- you really gotta pick someone you admire, ask to meet, and if it is a good vibe ask to meet regularly. I imagined that it would just fall into place for a long time but honestly it took a lot of effort but now it’s worth it!

Joined a mentorship program through my zen center and 🄲 cant rec enough 🄲 my mentor is amazing lady who used to do professional astrology reading but now runs the center and spends her free time doing habitat restoration and curling (?? so hardcore wtf). She sits by me during zazen and gives me a big hug every time i come in 😭

Find yourself a great mentor! This guy is mine, and I’m so glad I met him and have the privilege to work with him and learn from him and enjoy fresh baked banana bread at his house with his wonderful sweet wife (and my other mentor) šŸ’Ÿ

i’ve been very lucky to have had a self sustaining network of mentors but the first one i got through my alumni network by asking a professor! ask around! reach out! i haven’t worked with some of these people in years but they bring my name up when it could make a difference and i just landed a really neat opportunity because of it. remember to say thank you and turn around and do the same for the littles come up behind you ā—”Ģˆ

I was going through the Ignatian approach to education today (adapted from the Spiritual Exercises for those keeping track at home) and this tenet is just so good. St. Ignatius says that a person, ā€œought to be more eager to put a good interpretation on a neighbor’s statement than to condemn it.Further, if one cannot interpret it favorably,Ā one should ask how the other means it. If the meaning is wrong, one should correct the person with love; if this is not enough, one should search outĀ everyĀ  appropriate means through which, by understanding the statement in a good way,Ā it may be saved.ā€ This is very Hanlon’s razor (never attribute to malice what you can attribute to stupidity/ignorance) and I just feel like having a curious posture like this is a major slay and makes us better people

Like look at this shit. Just kinda sick tbh. The Eastern church invented maximalism which is just very slay for them (even if you aren't into God or whatever I feel like you can enjoy old buildings with tons of art everywhere)
