A whole album of Springsteen covers that puts the emphasis on the poetry and melody of his werk. I could only do Nebraska before but this opened by ears, mind, and heart to The Boss. Only available on YouTube, they will never get those permissions but dear lord, this is a no skips work of art. Tougher Than the Rest is my song but everything is so beautifu.

Underrated folk artist. Great lyrics. He did a whole album of Springsteen covers that goes surprisingly hard, and he covered Chelsea Hotel before it was cool. Table Cloth, Nothing To Say, Falling In Love With Your Best Friend, the list goes on.

Ben Kweller had Kimya Dawson do guest vocals on “Sha Sha” Kimya Dawson had Paul Baribeau do guest vocals on “Tireswing” Paul Baribeau collabed with Ginger Alford on a bunch of Bruce Springsteen covers And this was how I got more into Bruce Springsteen. Music is wild, collaboration is gorgeous, and this album makes me feel 16 years old. Waiting outside of The Vic hoping to catch a glimpse of Ben Kweller and Ben Gibbard (both of whom I got to meet because that’s the point of being an earnest fan).

I love this version so much more than the Springsteen original. Some may say it’s corny, but I learned this song by friends playing it and singing along, and the pacing is so much nicer in the Band version.

Upper East Side. He shouted “I thought it was a Tuesday” on a Wednesday into a flip phone in the early 2000s. He sounded just like he does in the movies 💕

This is annoying advice but love has always come to me when I’m not looking for it. When I get very active in things I’m passionate about (usually leftie organizing but also art and history stuff and also just spending time with friends a la the friends of friends rec) I meet new people and find interesting, aligned folks.

I got my current role by rage applying and it’s weirdly great but still whenever I get mad at it, I either update my resume (I’m only able to boast about my work when I’m mad at my job!) or randomly apply to roles - it gives you a task to focus on and it could end up changing your life for the better.
