it's crazy how speech has changed to appeal to multi million dollar companies and their capacity for profit.

one of the most potent consequences of data/information and censorship colliding I’ve ever seen online is the near constant stream of language being mangled and rendered meaningless. I have a few examples i notice: - pornography labeled ā€œpr0nā€ or sexually explicit writing or content being labeled ā€œspicyā€ happens damn near all the time on TikTok specifically book tok - suicide being called ā€œunaliving/unalivedā€ - I probably have a few other but can’t really think of it now I wish we could say what we mean and the looming nature of tech and surveillance is really fracturing how we communicate, it is genuinely worrisome sometimes

aidanaguirre to me it’s the implication that you have to change your speech for ā€œthe algorithm.ā€ or what? You won’t go viral? Who care. Also it’s almost like the people that do this lack a theory of mind in that they assume if something is not allowed on tiktok it’s not allowed anywhere else (or maybe they just learned to read and write via tiktok??) Plus it makes it so people who have filters set for these words end up seeing triggering content anyway

snills yeah I see I think there are those who fully acknowledge that they do need to adapt their speech for marketability and compliance to ā€œthe algorithmā€ and they probably are not going to stop at all. considering that they’ll make content by any means necessary, my guess is that they do this to adapt to the platform and internalize this a lot and for something not flying on TikTok = real life, I definitely believe that this is a case of the internalizing happening in real life. Unfortunately the ubiquity of the internet and social media is making an extension and reflection of itself within… any other domain of our lives

I love this app and the people on it and there are great recommendations, but don’t let other people tell you what to do or not to do!!! Take suggestions but don’t take them as gospel

My tiktok algorithm is almost exclusively self-care and antifa and this is one thing that stood out from the barrage of messaging. Trying to break my habit of caring about/problem solving other peoples problems more than my own. It’s hard! Theirs seem easier to solve!
