i get censoring of some stuff online, like rape, abuse, murder, whatever. but if someone comes up to me irl and says "unalive"? ill rip my eyes out of my skull, thanks

one of the most potent consequences of data/information and censorship colliding Iāve ever seen online is the near constant stream of language being mangled and rendered meaningless. I have a few examples i notice:
- pornography labeled āpr0nā or sexually explicit writing or content being labeled āspicyā happens damn near all the time on TikTok specifically book tok
- suicide being called āunaliving/unalivedā
- I probably have a few other but canāt really think of it now
I wish we could say what we mean and the looming nature of tech and surveillance is really fracturing how we communicate, it is genuinely worrisome sometimes

aidanaguirre to me itās the implication that you have to change your speech for āthe algorithm.ā or what? You wonāt go viral? Who care. Also itās almost like the people that do this lack a theory of mind in that they assume if something is not allowed on tiktok itās not allowed anywhere else (or maybe they just learned to read and write via tiktok??)
Plus it makes it so people who have filters set for these words end up seeing triggering content anyway

I think there are those who fully acknowledge that they do need to adapt their speech for marketability and compliance to āthe algorithmā and they probably are not going to stop at all. considering that theyāll make content by any means necessary, my guess is that they do this to adapt to the platform and internalize this a lot
and for something not flying on TikTok = real life, I definitely believe that this is a case of the internalizing happening in real life. Unfortunately the ubiquity of the internet and social media is making an extension and reflection of itself withinā¦ any other domain of our lives
