look up some of ur fav local venues/ bars! if they’re any good they’ll be promoting the bands playing. If a poster or band name catches my eye I’ll search them up on Spotify and throw a track or two on a playlist exclusively for this. From time to time, when I’m sick of my usual, I’ll throw this playlist on. If a song is good it goes onto a regular playlist :))
Bandcamp and filter by your city to find good local musicians (Sadly it’s only major cities). Also just in general I find that bandcamp highlights interesting stuff on the homepage.
My local college has a radio station which plays amazing variety of stuff. They often highlight local people, foreign stuff and weird/offbeat things I’d never find on my own. Use the music major nerds to ur benefit.
- spotify afterplay radio. pretty good still though worse than it once was
- NTS radio. my fav
- having friends with good taste send you shit or tell you to listen to shit
- going to the discog of an artist you like and listening to an album you haven’t checked before, especially artists new to you
- my dad is old and has incredible taste in 60’s-80’s stuff so he’ll send me shit randomly or i’ll ask him
Get a haircut, get rid of some clothes you haven’t worn in years, get a new houseplant, get in touch with the changing season, get grounded, get stoned, get in touch with some old friends, get some ice cream, get going
Friends you met out in the neighborhood at a bar or park or cafe or wherever a couple times and struck up a rapport with.
You don’t have eachother’s phone numbers, no social media info.
I have a couple friends like this and it’s been such a nice social change up. Always a pleasant surprise to bump into them out and about.
