Friends you met out in the neighborhood at a bar or park or cafe or wherever a couple times and struck up a rapport with.
You don’t have eachother’s phone numbers, no social media info.
I have a couple friends like this and it’s been such a nice social change up. Always a pleasant surprise to bump into them out and about.
1–friend I met through a mutual ex (because lesbians) plus a friend she made through bumble bff and invited to our group through trivia, and an online friend of the bumble person who ran into us at the bar and joined us for trivia and the rest is history lol (plus my friend who rotated in my lab but joined a different lab for her PhD work and sometimes joins us when she can get a break from being a neuroscientist lol)
2—Friend whose younger sister I became friends with years ago and then the sister introduced me to this friend when they moved out to Maryland from South Dakota a little over a year after I did! Plus a twitter friend of this friend who became an IRL friend of both of us, and sometimes another twitter-to-irl friend who joins us when she can (and graciously drove me to and from my routine colonoscopy—because crohn’s lol—in September lol thank you Leah)
honorable mention to the friends I made through band in 6th grade who were my besties through high school and into college but who I don’t talk to that much anymore because life :( I miss them :/
Some former mutuals have recently expressed their interest in getting to know me and it’s made me feel really good about myself! one was a match on a dating app (😽) and one was a spontaneous invite to a group hang that has now blossomed into several other hangs both independently and in a group setting. It feels nice to have irl people say “hey i’d like to get to know you better,” especially since i made it a goal to seek intimacy and connection more this summer. ♥️♥️♥️
Get a haircut, get rid of some clothes you haven’t worn in years, get a new houseplant, get in touch with the changing season, get grounded, get stoned, get in touch with some old friends, get some ice cream, get going
You already have it at home, might as well crumple some up and figure out what to do with it. I wrapped a rock and a wine cork for a mobile a couple years back.
Also have used it as a background and cutout for collages. it’s fun seeing how what you make changes as the light hits it differently.
