these bags are made out of recycled truck tarps and other reused durable materials. they’re pretty much all one-of-a-kind and very cool, i was debating gatekeeping them haha but i will share! i just think they make a very sexy bag and although they’re expensive i find that it’s easy to source affordable ones online secondhand. because i am practicing non attachment and an abundance mindset i am linking the one i’ve had my eye on but don’t need bc i have so much of this color in my wardrobe, as well as like 30 tote bags. bless you godspeed

Saw this question pop up in the morning and have spent the rest of the day thinking about bags. Turns out I’m harboring a lot of opinions on them. Like flora I agree that you need one in each size (s/m/l). Additionally as a person who treats my clothes and accessories like trash it’s imperative I have a bag that isn’t precious but looks chic. Which is why I always go with a medium sized leather bucket bag in a fun or neutral color. I go through one every 5 years. In college I had my mom’s 70s Dooney and Bourke, when I moved to New York I treated myself to a Creatures of Comfort (RIP) and recently I scored an OAD bag (also maybe RIP?) off The Real Real. Bucket bags fit everything, but don’t look like you’re schlepping your whole life in there. I also like going bagless and using just a Petit Pli mini pocket that I wear around my neck. There’s enough room to tuck a card and a key in too. On the XL size I love my Baggu cloud bag. It’s the absolute goat for travel because it also is collapsable!

Lately I have been on the lookout for a quality black leather shoulder bag to use everyday, in the $200 - $500 range. Sadly, i feel like finding a good quality bag in this age is daunting. Last year I went into a Gucci store because I wanted to buy a used Jackie and see the different sizes. After holding the bag in my hand, and feeling it, i was instantly disappointed. I have been trying to understand what I want out of my bags, and I realized from feeling the saffiano of the Jackie that I like supple, smooth leather, possibly lightly protected and embossed. Sadly that stuff is prone to scratching, but I think I am willing to take the risk. I have a vintage Coach Ergo with many scratches, but it’s the bag I use the most because of the simple look, the many pockets, and the large strap to easily have around my shoulder. Anyways I’m still on the search, but I am getting tired of seeing the same brands over and over again, and seeing more experimental construction that I’m not into. I just want a simple, classic bag. But this morning I found a Japanese brand called Etiam and saved this one in my bookmarks to look at later 💼

i love my Want Les Essentiels tote bag, it's casual yet classy and very sturdy. it's in between a regular tote and a purse. i've had it for 13 years and it's still in very good condition. they don't sell the model i have anymore though :( i also use this random huge uniqlo u messenger bag (with just a zipper, no flap) whenever i want to be prepared and able to put anything (cardigan, books, table top games, ...) in my bag. i think big messenger bags are pretty stylish and trendy, it's not a purse but still maybe worth looking into, and i like Susan Bijl bags.... (the new shopping bag) (slightly elevated tote bag) (gen x / millenial aesthetics but im old so)

my sister just had a baby and i am considering the type of aunt?/guncle ? (the designation becomes tricky w gender lol) i may be. but ultimately the archetype of “cool aunt”—mysterious, distant-yet-warm, uninvolved in family dramas, arrives at family gatherings wearing strange, somehow stylish clothes, bearing copious gifts and floating on an air of urban life—resonates most soundly with me this has also led me to reflect on how my mom’s sister played such a key role in my  youth by revealing to me a foundational truth that this is not all that there is! ‘twas a very hopeful message to me, a miserable child/teen unsuited to christian suburban life, forced to procure my wardrobe primarily from the women’s section at the department store because that is what my mother deemed reasonable (and kohl’s cash)  some of the notable moments my aunt bestowed upon my adolescence include: • taking me to see moonrise kingdom at the indie art deco theater in a nearby mountain town  • driving me to philly for shows at tla even though she had no idea who the artists were and would stand in the back; also paying for all my meals and whims on our south street jaunts • curating a collection of signed books from author visits at her local library, which she’d always drop off nonchalantly as gifts (charles santore picture books, lemony snicket !)  • signing me up for 5ks and carting me along to her races • explaining to me what a “lesbian” is and taking me to meet said lesbians in a dimly lit new york restaurant where i tried alligator sausage and felt so urbane  • general trips to ny for broadway shows and museums   • introducing me to rummikub • letting me roam free at community music festivals from late afternoon til dusk, where i’d encounter children from different counties, get in harmless trouble and infuse my life with the intrigue of those unknown to me but in those brief moments
