you gotta see the artistry in tearing the place apart with me, baby i love this song, it makes me happy and at the same time a bit sad idk how to explain it but i always feel kind of nostalgic when listening to it (if you're interested, The Orion Experience made a very upbeat cover and it's very fun!!)

The persuaded by faded paper figures

This song is one that I have played on repeat around this time of year, every year since I was a teenager. I don't know why it becomes something that I obsessively listen to once a year, but I do know that I love it because it is this blend of melody and precision with memorable lyrics (about communications theory no less). There is something so compelling about the synthpop sound and the way that the lyrics feel unfamiliar, almost imperceptible with their layering harmonies at different points in the song.

First song of the new year

Since like 2010 I’ve had a mini tradition for myself where the first song I listen to every year is Together We’ll Ring In The New Year by Motion City Soundtrack. I’m not personally huge on traditions but it is something that keeps me kinda connected to past years which is nice.
