Since like 2010 I’ve had a mini tradition for myself where the first song I listen to every year is Together We’ll Ring In The New Year by Motion City Soundtrack. I’m not personally huge on traditions but it is something that keeps me kinda connected to past years which is nice.

I spent New Years celebrating my friend’s birthday with her partner who is a huge shoegaze head. He was playing this song as I said goodbye for the night and it encapsulated the mood of feeling hopeful and restored after spending a beautiful day with good friends 🫶🏻

The quiet week between Christmas and New Years. I’ve never felt it as heavily as I did this year. Normally at this time I travel and it goes by in an instant. But, in NYC the streets got eerily quiet in places they're normally bustling, and (I know, I’m hardly a local here) but the waves of tourists made me feel weirdly displaced??
It was like a blanket fell over the city. in a place that normally demands speed and urgency it was suddenly okay to walk slowly. the warmer weather and the rain made me feel like I was inside a snow globe- safe from the outside world and contained. That’s how this song feels.
and then on New Years BOOM people were dancing and celebrating the passage of time. fireworks and paper trumpets broke the quiet spell and the bout of wind on January 1st burst into our atmosphere. it made things feel real again.
Anyway here we are back in reality, but for a moment on the M train I’m back in the snow globe- so thanks Chilly Gonzalez.

Not a perfect movie by any means but every time I watch it I feel better haha. The song WILL get stuck in your head for a few days without fail. It’s available on Hulu now.

I’m a merchandise designer for bands and my small dream is to see someone I don’t know wearing something I designed, even better if it’s not at that band’s concert. Not sure whether I would say anything to them about it or just keep it to myself
