I’m horrible addicted too instagram. I have not had the app on my phone for the past year but I still log at least 2 hours with safari on my phone on using chrome on my computer. I have the ā€œremember my credentialsā€ thing turned off and logged out and I havnt been on it in the past 4 days which is huge for me. whenever I search for it I am met with the login screen and I just tell myself no and I don’t log in. I’ve been surprised how well this is working we will see how long it lasts

Settings - Screen Time - Content & Privacy Restrictions - Content Restrictions - Web Content - Limit Adult Websites - and then add what website(s) you’d like to block completely to the ā€œnever allowā€ section. This also gets rid of the private tab and doesn’t let you erase your browsing history, but itā€˜s a small price to pay for freedom. Currently using it to combat my YouTube addiction. Congrats on 4 days and hope you keep your streak going!

I’m not strong enough to go full cold-turkey and delete my Instagram, but I am also not strong enough to limit my screen intake. My solution: delete the Instragram app and login on the browser. It is an absolutely horrible user experience so I’m never on longer than a few minutes. Get in, get out!

i have an iphone and deleting instagram off of my homescreen (so that i can still access the app if i want) is a game changer. it helps to curb the kind of muscle memory you get from opening it automatically to begin the mindless scroll. i still check it maybe look at a few posts but overall i'm barely on it now. i would spend 2+ hours a day on it scrolling mindlessly and by best time was thursday when i spent a whopping seven minutes on it!!!

I deleted the app off my phone, but I’m logged in on browser and I check stories and messages there. But I kinda love not having IG with me wherever I go. It quells the urge to post everything for validation or to prove I’m having fun/looking hot. I also don’t get the crazy ads on browser, and I don’t get sucked into the insanity of the explore page (which is exclusively weight-loss content somehow) because on browser, search and discover are different buttons. A lot of 2025 for me has been treating my Poster’s Disease. I nuked my Twitter/X account, and only use Bluesky (took that app off my phone too). I’ll download the Instagram app like once a week to share some work and things to stories, but I feel 10000x more sane not scrolling the app on my phone all the time. I’ll check Reddit or Substack apps if I need a lil scroll action. Read, write, be present with your friends. Take back your attention in anyway you can!

This was a truly horrid thought I had the other day when I was walking over the river while marveling at the water, the city lights, cars, and people. Scrolling and walking do have similarities and realizing this was valuable to me. Scrolling simulates visual stimuli moving across our field of vision as we navigate a digital landscape.
Taking a walk outside, making dinner, talking to a friend in person, or even just wandering around my apartment have all worked to minimize scrolling urges for me. They all also tend to involve the movement of my visual field with constant new stimuli.
Its also important to note that none of these tasks require intensive demands to focus attention. If I want to doom scroll I probably want to relax my brain from concentrated attention while engaging in a repetitive task. Just walking around my apartment is better than scrolling and often more realistic than reading. Finding ways to relax and procrastinate without using screens may seem counter-intuitive but I think it gives me more freedom. Plus I have never regretted going on a walk.
