Specifically: buying shoes on the realreal. If you live in nyc and are like me, you’re probably really hard on your shoes. Remove the anxiety of scuffing a new pair of by buying someone’s barely worn ones. You get good quality shoes for a regular price AND you won’t be devastated when you trip up the subway stairs (couldn’t be me!!).
Also, yes, you can get trendy stuff but it’s not that discounted. Do some digging in nice brands that are known for making good shoes.
Pro tip: if you’re looking on depop or similar sites, know your Japanese (JP) or cm shoe size. Sometimes it’s just marked as CM on the tag. This is the size of your shoe in centimeters and is less arbitrary than other sizing systems!

I’m very stubborn when it comes to buying new items for my wardrobe - especially shoes. i recently got myself a new pair for the first time since i was sixteen. But I still wear my old white air force 1s. And my black ones too. But not too long ago i got these fake docs and they fit me great! It feels so weird to walk around in un-creased shoes. But that wont last very long. I dont know how to take good care of footwear. But that’s nothing a trip to the mall can’t fix. You know those guys who offer to spruce up your shoes in the mall?

If the heel isn’t walkable then just call it what it is: A tiny art installation for your closet. Unwalkable shoes sit on shelves like small leather sculptures! The very purpose of shoes is to increase your mobility and comfort—not to limit your stamina and plans for the night! Stop wasting money and start engaging with reality instead. You will never wear them. Save the money.

I mean the very specific sensation of knowing you're wearing exactly the right shoes for the task at hand. Like the way that the fabric moves is so perfect for the activity you know you made exactly the right choice. Some examples: Ballet shoes for when you're dancing and pointing your toes Slingback kitten heels for when you're seated to sip drinks in a nice bar Comfortable walking shoes that support your ankles when you're hiking A pair of light trainers in the summer that grip the pavement and don't make your feet sweat Chunky boots in the winter that you can feel are completely waterproof

Stop thinking about germs so much. Touch the subway pole. Touch your mouth after (by accident). Boost your immune system. Live forever.
