Situated on Hudson and 11th Street in the West Village since 1880. Used to be more of a longshoreman’s bar than a literary hub until Dylan Thomas and other writers began frequenting it in the early 1950s. Favorite watering hole for Bob Dylan, Jim Morrison, James Baldwin, Norman Mailer, Hunter S. Thompson, Mary Travers of Peter Paul and Mary fame, etc. Maybe a tad touristy now but still very boho and a reminder of the history of the Village.

Literally in the heart of the cultural desert that is Times Square lives this dive bar oasis with impeccable authentic vibes. The crowd is a beautiful melting pot of New York City. It was owned by a boxing coach for many years (RIP) so it’s full of boxing memorabilia. Somehow I find it’s one of the friendliest bars I’ve ever been to.

In a neighborhood of bad Irish bars this is the best. They just celebrated their 100 year anniversary and most of the clientele are approximately the same age.

Hey tyler hopefully this doesn’t violate some PI.FYI golden rule But after nearly two years of writing, editing and arguing, my book about the EP is coming out in May and can be preordered here: https://hozacrecords.com/product/aifl/ The book is about the origins, history and cultural impact of the EP since these little objects first started coming out in the 50s. Over 50 of my music biz friends then helped me shape the list and review the top 200 ever released, according to us (ha). For those of you who are into this kind of geekery/snobbery, I can’t wait to hear what you think. A labor of love, as all books are! ❤️
