I’m surprised nobody has said this one yet but I guess it’s not necessarily a random interest lol. It forces you into regular friendly interaction with people in your community, especially if you habitually take your dog to the same restaurants for outdoor dining or if you live in a large apartment building—especially if it has a dog park where you end up naturally chatting with other dog owners and seeing them over and over again. I had a lot of interesting conversations at my last apartment building while my dog Benny played with other dogs. Great way to become socialized if you’re feral

feel free to amble along and maximize your time in the sun and fresh air. people are always like "you're in new york! walk fast!" but take it from a lifelong new yorker: you are allowed to chill...slow down...enjoy yourself. you don't always have to rush.
