1. French Toast: there is NOTHING better than some cinnamon French toast with some fresh fruit and whipped cream on top. Add some homemade syrup and you’re living the dream. Stunning.
2. Pancakes: this was a VERY close second. Blueberry or chocolate chip pancakes have my entire heart, especially with some whipped cream. Whenever I think breakfast, I think pancakes.
3. Breakfast Sandwich: this is an interesting choice at number 3, maybe controversial at times, but a breakfast sandwich (a bacon egg and cheese, hellooooo) is one of the best things that I’ve been introduced to, and I’ve met some pretty important people. This is the breakfast you gravitate towards when you have a full day ahead of you. I do believe that these are better on bagels than croissants, and English muffins are a whole other story- get that shit out of here.
4. Waffles: I know you all expected waffles to be much higher, but in my heart of hearts there is no spot more fitting than fourth place. When the waffles are good, they are GOOD, like first place good. When they are bad, okay they are still pretty good, but idk stop pressuring me they are at fourth place and you’re just going to have to deal with that. However if there was a bonus point section they would win for the fact that you can fill the pockets up with syrup!
5. Omelette: little fun fact about me is that I can only cook breakfast food, and an omelette pan to me is a paint brush in the hands of Monet. I love omelettes and I think they are such a great combination of so many yummy ingredients. Honestly though, 99% of omelettes made by other people kinda suck to me, and for that reason they must go at #5
6. Pastry: a fresh pastry in the morning with an iced latte really encapsulates the feeling I get in the summer on vacation. There are so many types of pastries available: croissants, macarons, muffins, cookies, scones, cinnamon rolls, quiches- I could go on all day. Whenever I’m looking for a light breakfast, this is always the move.
7. Smoothie Bowl: I actually love these so much, and anytime I can get my grubby little hands on a smoothie bowl I will do so. The reasons these are placed at #7 are twofold. 1) they always include banana in the base, which overpowers the whole thing, and when you ask if they can make it without banana, 99% of the time they scoff at you and reject your smoothie bowl dreams, to the point where you consider lying and saying you’re allergic to banana just to see what happens. 2) I’m a slow eater, and by the time that I can even think of finishing my bowl, the whole thing has been melted down to resemble a child’s popsicle on a Fourth of July afternoon. When these are done right though my heart is full.
8. Cereal: a true classic. I am one of the few adults who still appreciates a bowl of cereal. Saturday morning after a night out- cereal and cartoons like the good old days, need I say any more?
9. Avocado Toast: I don’t know how it took me so long to mention this considering this is what I eat every single morning, but those millennials realllyyyy knew what they were talking about with this one, absolutely no notes.
10. Eggs and bacon: I totally get why this is a thing, and nobody appreciates a classic diner breakfast more than I do. But sometimes you’re eating eggs and everything is great, and then you think about it for a LITTLE too long and then you look down and go, bro am I eating EGGS? Because of this I need to inhale my eggs before this thought occurs to me, and that feels like enough stress to put this at 10.
11. Iced coffee, empty stomach: if you want to feel anxious, hungover, and ill, this is the breakfast for you. Despite this glowing review I also do this for breakfast most days.
12. Oatmeal or Overnight Oats: I don’t get this one I’m sorry. If I wanted to feel like a baby bird whose mother had just chewed my food for me, I would go for this. Otherwise it’s a hard sell.
Honorable mentions that I’m too drained to write about: granola bar, yogurt, porridge
