this is a bit of a premature rec bc my boots are still at the cobbler... but im confident in this decision. if u are anything like me and buy secondhand shoes that may have been stored poorly (i just ordered this pair of boots and they shipped from miami so chances are they were stored somewhere w high humidity) or are just plain old (the adhesives get weak over time) u have probably dealt w some sole drama. i am happy to say that this is an option for u!!! it also extends their longevity
side rec - if you don't already have this knowledge somehow i recommend watching rose anvil (white guy in utah who cuts boots open, very educational re: shoe construction methods, what's really quality & what's not) or trenton & heath (white guys somewhere in the south that might be gay but also might just be super trad i can't tell. anyway they're cobblers and you learn the same stuff basically) on the youtube
i learned so much about what is and isn't bullshit with shoes from watching them + what to look for with cobblers etc
I kind of wrote about this topic here. Remember that you can resole most shoes, including most cemended shoes, but it's only worth doing if they're nice shoes in the first place. if they're made of garbage leather, the uppers will look like trash before you ever get them resoled.
with whom I have a very close r’ship. Nothing chic-er than taking your worn-in leather boots to be re-soled! Look after your things and they’ll look after you.
Very cool to me that this is a centuries old trade untouched by technology and whenever I go it feels quite charming. These dudes work magic every time, it’s awesome. Do not buy new shoes, let the cobbler save the old! Up next: going to the tailor.
i have my dream job, live in my dream city, love my friends, love my wardrobe, love my apartment... sometimes the bliss hits me all at once. i have so much to be grateful for!! :'3
i am so obsessed with the prehistoric world and the art made during that time! so deeply moving and inspiring to me, i feel the magnitude of these works with my whole heart
