- one of the best plays ever written imo. a small irish community in the early 1800s is shaken to its core when a british cartographer comes to map their land for the empire, attempting to translate their place names and ultimately erasing them. a brilliant study in how language creates and shapes culture.
The World Is Ending and Maybe That’s Kinda Hot by Catherine Weingarten (only on New Play Exchange ;))
- an adaptation of the Decameron by Boaccaccio, but if it was twitter in the 2010s. funky prose, sweeping emotions, horny teens.
Purlie Victorious: a Non Confederate Romp Through the Cotton Patch by Ossie Davis
- saw this on broadway in september and it was phenomenal. a charismatic preacher constructs a farce to buy back his family’s old church from the town’s racist sharecropper. both incredibly funny and witty, and also a powerful reflection of black spirituality in the early 20th century.

Pretty sick, went with a friend and it was very funny. $14 Movie Theater IPAs were hitting in a fantastic way. Then we went to see the second half of the Knicks game in some dive in the Village. It was a great time, stumbled on the escalator in front of strangers.

I have another indie theater that I prefer because it’s cozier, has better vibes, is much closer to me, and everybody who works there is genuinely passionate about film. It’s not really anything special visually but it’s a beautiful institution and it’s so fun to be there ❤️
But this one is an old art deco theatre designed by architect John Eberson (he designed Loew’s Paradise in the Bronx and the Paradise Theatre in Chicago)! It’s pretty run down/poorly managed and staffed but it’s a gorgeous building and definitely worth visiting. Not my photos but included for illustrative purposes!!

it helps me focus and stay moving around so i’m not just standing still on my feet while i pull espresso for 6 hours.
also it really brightens people‘s day. sometimes i get folks to dance with me, sometimes i get comments about the vibe, its just nice. it starts conversations about music. it makes work better.
