this applies to all media, but especially to videogames. unless you’ve played every landmark title in the last 30 years (you haven’t), gaming isn’t dead. i didn’t even own a ps2 or a dreamcast as a kid so i missed out on literally hundreds of hours worth of bangers that i am just now going back to and i’m having a fucking blast. that‘s without even diving into the immense creativity coming out of the indie scene literally every day. i am eating fucking good right now, and all it would take for you to do a same is to fix yourself a plate and pull up a chair

honestly in general this is a rec for playing older video games. It’s giving me a new respect for the creativity that has to be used back in the day to portray or enact certain scenarios or feelings out of players. I have a huge crush on Snake from the Metal Gear Solid series even though… I’ve barely played it. Mostly a lot of people I follow on tumblr are obsessed with it and then I started reading a lot of fanfiction based off of it and over the weekend I finally but the bullet and bought the collection series and started from the beginning. This game is kicking my ass but I feel like I’m using a different part of my brain when I play it which has me coming back for more. The game functions so differently from modern games. It’s so refreshing. Heavily encourage getting into an old game series so that you can sink into the catalog

Alice Madness Returns - first played it in my first year of uni at 18 and it became my whole personality, recently replayed it and it basically happened again. The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood - a recent play and the game that has me considering becoming a game writer Death’s Door - dark souls for cutie pies. i just find this endlessly repayable because the controls feel so nice for me. Also the first “hard game” I played that convinced me “hard games” aren’t out of my ability. Final Fantasy X - the first “real game” I played on my ps2 when I was like 10. my friends used to make fun of me for not going out to play after school because I was doing anotber ffx replay. Shout out to the spyro trilogy and Spiritfarer - the endlessly replayable basis for my favourite kind of gameplay, and the first game to make me cry, respectively.
