He was associated with Fluxus way back when, ostensibly coined the term "concept art" and also promoted an "anti-art" movement, and since then has mainly just made whatever the hell this is and I love it. David Lynch understands the blend of a country twang with EDM distortions and sounds. As emblematic on his eclectic and masterful track “Strange and Unproductive Thinking,” he has a lot to say, much of it incoherent, in ways relatable and all the more interesting with a crunchy and dance-able beat. I want to hear that at a party, as it best encapsulates the true essence of a party- communal existentialism.

Everything on Ghost Box records evokes the weird & eerie folk horror-infused atmosphere I love. I’m also obsessed with songs that feature someone straight up talking or reading over music, so this is checking every box for me at the moment. I’m also trying to make stuff like this myself rn and finding inspiration in their catalog, so I‘m shuffling through their stuff and Advisory Circle and Pye Cornet Audio et al, all wonderful.

it sounds stupid and pretentious but every time I see one of those old school British actors recite some old Wordsworth poem i think damn you really did it!!! Or George Steiner has those beautiful stories about the value of Talmudic memory during the holocaust, or Pasternak standing up to Stalin during the Soviet Writer's Conference in the 30s surely to be arrested and making everyone recite Shakespeare's "I summon up remembrance of things past.." its so powerful!!! Recitation and memory has such strength to it, and I want to keep it strong!

Back in the day Kenji (who worked at Serious Eats and wrote some of the best NYTCooking recipes) used to make these "late night" videos where--clearly tired and/or drunk from a night's work--he'd strap a gopro on his noggin and make cheap grub while huffing and sighing heavily (in the daytime videos he tells you about the recipe) and it makes me so happy to know pro chefs also make drunk meals
