You SHOULD be rinsing your rice before you cook it. But if you aren’t today is the PERFECT day to start. Rinse your rice in cold water to get the starch off it, agitate the rice. save that milky colored water in a large container. Keep rinsing the rice until it’s clear. Cook your rice and eat it. Let the rice water sit overnight so that the hard minerals evaporate. You can dilute the rice water with more reg water to dilute it (like if you have HELLA plants like I do) but stir it up bc it might settle. (You can either add filtered water OR you can add more water before you let the hard minerals evaporate) Now you have a natural and free fertilizer for your plants. Use it all in one day tho. Repeat once a month, every other month or when your plant babies need some extra love especially during the winter months.

Don't have time to leave the rice overnight? You forgot to make the rice the night before but you crave fried rice, which might just be your last straw? Instead of lukewarm water, use your Brita water from the fridge, it'll make your cooked rice a bit less. I'd say soft and perfect for frying rice. OR! Add just ever so slightly LESS water than your normal water level, the rice will be cooked still but more separated so you get the perfect fried rice texture. Another pro tip for fried rice I learned from my chef uncle is, to mix your rice with some sesame oil after taking it out from your fridge. before adding to your wok/pan, it'll coat the rice with oil and loosen it too!

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but in most cases you’re gonna want to season your rice. After it cooks, put some oil/butter on that steamy starch and stir and salt it. It doesn’t even need to be a huge amount, but it’s going to improve things so much. You could even put a little vinegar in there too—go crazy. Everyone is gonna be like, “wow your rice tastes so good” and you can know that it’s all because of your use of FLAVORS and SCIENCE.

Simply substitute 1/2 cup of the water you’re using with olive juice. Makes the rice extra tasty AND limits kitchen waste!!!

It’s black history month. Support your black friends and learn the origin of like every American popular musical genre everrr. Once I’m done with the 40 + genres, we’re diving into the diasporaaaa. And then at some point I’m talking cash shit about the summer of love and what was cooler than stinky trust fund kids…I mean hippies in San Francisco... I’ll give you some hints, same time period but across the bridge in Oakland. There’s also 1980s Washington DC, fuck it even 1960s Detroit. I just really fucking hate the Grateful Dead fans. Sorry. Not sorry. Perfect listening for cleaning the house and doing art projects. Tell a friend.

I think that might be my secret to “success” My Success today is doing laundry and drafting emails 🫢 Might fuck around and clean a bathroom or write a few paragraphs for a short story.
