Dunno why more people don’t talk about this book. Kaufman is a better novelist than he is director. Funny, poignant, absurd, satirical, political—maybe a defining novel of whatever literary era we’ve fallen into.

stories over time of a cast of characters loosely linked through the music industry In a post-modern style like not too dissimilar to vonnegut each chapter can be seen almost as a stand alone vignette edit: after re-reading your ask, I’ll admit not the weirdest book, but it’s also definitely not run of the mill narrative fiction. If you want weird, read Naked Lunch by William Burroughs. One of the most banned books of all time for a reason, grotesque, obscene, challenging, but imo definitely worth the read and I’ll be rereading it sometime. Helps to read along with a study guide to make sure you’re following what’s going on.

Hands-down the most deranged and hilarious book I’ve ever read. Vidal’s style and his mind are unmatched! Structurally it’s very unique and he called it ”après post-structuralism”

It’s about a guy finding a manuscript about a documentary that might not exist, about a house that shouldn’t exist, all wrapped in layers of footnotes, hidden messages, and pure existential dread. If you like books that mess with your head—literally and figuratively—read this.

a breathtaking work of experimental modernism, and probably woolf’s greatest masterpiece. the text follows six children as they stumble through life, grow up, grow apart, and grieve a dead friend. written in a nauseous stream of consciousness that blurs each character into the next in an attempt to break down the walls between the inner world and the world of the other. the most successful meditation on big existential questions—death, love, grief, and the impossibility (and harrowing importance) of unfiltered connection—i’ve ever encountered. really hard to describe this one without minimizing it. i recommend reading it in as few sittings as possible to get the full effect.
