On December 18, 1974, Linda Rosenkrantz asked her friend Peter Hujar to write down everything he did one day. Peter recounted the events over a tape-recorded sitting– the transcript becoming this wonderful little book published by Magic Hour Press. Peter makes a phone call at noon to the home of Allen Ginsberg with hopes of completing a commissioned portrait of the poet for the Times. When he finally gets through they agree to meet in three-quarters of an hour to make the photographs. This casualness struck me. Could you imagine a photoshoot happening for the New York Times today without an agent, photo editor, and a negotiation? On December 18, 1974, it was just a phone call from artist to artist seeing if they could link in 45 to bang it out.

Pretty sick, went with a friend and it was very funny. $14 Movie Theater IPAs were hitting in a fantastic way. Then we went to see the second half of the Knicks game in some dive in the Village. It was a great time, stumbled on the escalator in front of strangers. 10/10

At the Lincoln Center Performing Arts Library you can watch almost any theatrical production performed in New York City since 1970. Due to union laws, you can only watch a production once and must stay in the library’s viewing cubicles. Recently, I watched John C. Riley and Phillip Seymour Hoffman in Sam Shepard’s True West. If you love theater, do yourself a favor and spend an afternoon watching an old production. I love theater and want new plays. I am imagining a burgeoning playwright creeping into the library to watch Meryl Streep in “Mouther Courage and Her Children” and going on to write their own Mother Courage (and casting me).

Start by having a lovely dinner with live jazz music in their restaurant. The food and drinks are worth the price. Will warn, the drinks are strong, so you’ll only need one. Then pick a movie. The Roxy Cinema always is either playing cult classics, 35mm prints of rare films, or is playing the best new indie films. Close out your night with a game of pool, a martini, and taking some photos in their photobooth. All will make for a magical, and memorable night, I guarantee 🖤
