Just say “I have to go home now” when you want to go home. To pull this off requires self assurance. It’s way weirder to have the vibe of someone who wants to leave but won‘t than to just rip off the band-aid.

I still feel like I'm honoring my late gran every time I Irish, since she taught it to me. It's like a magic trick to just vanish....

it's simply the best. you wanna leave? just go! don't say anything to anyone. do you have trouble with friends who love prolonged goodbyes or friends who try to convince you to stay longer? not anymore. you're already halfway home before anyone even realizes you're gone. "you should have said goodbye!" well, maybe i saw my opportunity to vamoose and took it! they should be saying, "you're a visionary, a true go-getter!" anyway, it's the most satisfying move to pull in any social situation and i recommend you do it whenever you can.

Sometimes you’ve just gotta call it. Not everything has to be an ordeal! Then you feel so independent and anonymous-in-a-good-way as you stroll to the subway and back home

Posting doesn’t necessarily reflect delusions of grandeur about one’s influence. it’s a simple, communicative act. give yourself some credit, trust social instincts. If people had phones at any time in human history- they’d be using them.

Ranking things out of three (no half stars, 0 permissible) is a valuable exercise. The limitations force one to reckon with the boundaries of language and the necessity of a respect for nuance. One out of three could be pretty bad..on the other hand, it's still pretty good.
