The beach boys - holland (1973)

In the BBs‘ tumultuous early 70s period, they decided to leave the Cali shore for - the Netherlands. They brought a whole entourage & reassembled a soundboard built for them in LA, leading to one of the most expensive records made at the time.
Stand outs are the moody and strangely heavy “Steamboat,” the mini rock opera “California Saga,” the rollicking “The Trader,” and the closer “Funky Pretty,” a strange but tuneful pop song that only could’ve come from Brian Wilson’s beautiful and deteriorating mind.

CARL AND THE PASSIONS - SO TOUGH

the first beach boys album to feature Blondie Chaplin and Ricky Fataar, members of the South African rock group, The Flames. The Flames were signed to Brother Records after Carl Wilson saw the group in concert and they were a supporting act for the Beach Boys until Blondie and Ricky were in the studio with the group for this album. they contributed two of my favorites from the album, “Here She Comes” and "Hold On, Dear Brother". two of my other favorites are “You Need a Mess of Help to Stand Alone” and “He Come Down”, which was inspired by gospel music

“Don’t give up. I mean, try your best. You’ve done something. You’ve actually created something on the screen that’s there and you should be proud of that. It’s physically there now the emotional part will eventually materialize. Cough it up, cough it up gang, cough it up. It actually exists. Which is important. Because pictures are important. You’ve actually tried, you’ve tried very hard. And the trying shows. I want to thank you for trying. And I want to thank you for presenting this thing which evidently comes from deep inside your possible gut. And it has effected our soul in places we don’t realize right now it’s going to take time to seep in, seep out. And um it’s it’s uh it’s really quite an attempt. It’s been attempted and it’s, um, success is around the corner. Thank you. For that experience.”
