what a downgrade the virgin “who is the REAL bad guy? morality is complicated!” No Time to Die vs. the Chad “fuck with my village and I’ll kill all of you” Apocalypto meanwhile one shows violence and death like a video game and the other gross and traumatic

The 2021 Joachim Trier movie where this girl is running and where she didn’t say the line about the things one fears the most, no, that was actually her dying of cancer ex. So my best friend and his new partner (my friend-in-law) are harsh on the main character for her allegedly unmoral doings (cheating, being a pain in the ass, never settling for what’s good for her), but I like the little norwegian sinner. The way she already cheated in her mind and heart, but will state otherwise out loud to jam her thoughts. Im not going for the disturbing the comfortable quote, no, that’s a low hanging fruit. But why consume works of fiction to judge the sinful, and not find our own worst fears and weaknesses in them? As if the title didn’t have it coming. By the way, the ending sucks ass 5/5 in first rewatch

peter griffin started saying in 1999 that all one sees is violence in movies and sex on tv but i really dont think that is true nowadays. in a post liveleaks world big hollywood thinks i dont want to see fake violence because of how often i see real violence in my day to day. they couldnt be more fuking wrong. i love graphic violence in movies. i love it when they add the gnarly sound effects and the super red faking looking blood and crazy sfx. a nasty on screen death will make me hornier than a gas station pink pussy pill ever could. real violence is just disturbing. i relapse on true crime videos once every 6 months or so and every time i stop it's because the feeling of guilt and fear build up in my soul until theyre too much to handle. there are real people involved with hopes and dreams and people who loved them. there's none of that with on screen violence. you meet a charater, they get torn into pieces, you squeal and groan in disgust and fascination, you go home, the actors get paid, nobody gets hurt. it's like pressing on a slightly tender bruise over and over again. it's addicting but ultimately harmless. i dont think video game violence is the same. it's fun to run people over in gta but i have no desire to enact violence, even digitally. i just to watch it in shocking detail

i have such a hard time getting through movies, its brutal and unfortunate. i am fully aware im missing out on some critical pieces of art in consequence, but if isnt both predominantly psychological thriller and as quickly paced as oppenheimer, its super hard to keep me engaged. i will talk about this movie until the end of time. despite minimal dialogue and the most clinical atmosphere to be captured by means of cinematography, the lack of information and consequential unpredictability kept me thoroughly enticed and fully unnerved for the full two hours. minimalism weaponized for max intensity with no certain direction; epitomization of surrealist thriller. watching it for the first time without context nor any expectations is an invaluable experience.

i think pulp fiction did it first-- a lot of soundtracks in the 90's had little excerpts from the movie. made for very cool interludes when you're driving to sugar mountain for the weekend with your family
