Building lore is crucial in this day and age. Sometimes not getting your picture taken at the function is ok. Refrain from posting banalities on your story when possible. Exercise deconstructive maximalism. Being an artist rather than an āArtistā is back, if you catch my drift.

šØI feel like thereās such pressure for creatives of all types to āmake a name for themselvesā, constantly be promoting and using all the right hashtags. Who cares? What if you just wanna make paintings for fun without monetary gain or fame in mind? What if you wanna make youtube videos just as a personal diary instead of becoming a ācontent creatorā or āinfluencerā? What if you just enjoy making logos instead of wanting to be a career freelance designer who spends every waking moment keeping up to date on design trends? Maybe your goal is to make money and become popular for your art, and thatās great, go for it! But I think itās just as valid to enjoy art for arts sake, and not feel a need to worry about posting it consistently and appeasing your followers.

š§āartā, media, whatever you create you create as a mode of expression first and foremost (which, imo, is why we all have a semi-innate distaste for work that feels derivative, disingenuous, or commerce-oriented claiming to be art.)
i think the arts landscape we find ourselves in (and the postmodernism of it all) incentivizes art that inspires dialogue, that is meant to captivate an audience and ideally a large one in both the fine arts and pop art arenas, and so we often congregate to forms like moving image, and other easily disseminated, easily digestible forms to express what is capable of being expressed through a variety of forms
if no one was there to receive our art we would still express ourselves. people expressed themselves before we had comms tech enabling immediate, mass dissemination. per meagre_graemeās rec, forms with an emphasis on utility such as cuisine, materials work, etc. would certainly be viable and more āoptimalā modes of expression, but writing would not go anywhere. photography would not go anywhere. the means by which people who do not consider themselves āartistsā express themselves and use their creative faculties to capture and romanticize their lives would become the means by which weād all express ourselves in the absence of an audienceā¦ so per taterholeā¦ does the audience even matter?

šIt can feel as alienating and heartbreaking to make anything right now. The attempt is what matters. Iāve been trying to make art for a while and feel gratification in doing it but I think thatās the problem isnāt it? We force it and when it doesnāt come out in the way we want it to it feels like we shouldnāt even try. By the nature of you making itās important, and your art is needed rlight now-
even though it doesnāt feel like its being witnessed. You are a witness to it
