It can feel as alienating and heartbreaking to make anything right now. The attempt is what matters. Iā€™ve been trying to make art for a while and feel gratification in doing it but I think thatā€™s the problem isnā€™t it? We force it and when it doesnā€™t come out in the way we want it to it feels like we shouldnā€™t even try. By the nature of you making itā€™s important, and your art is needed rlight now- even though it doesnā€™t feel like its being witnessed. You are a witness to it

So vulnerable, I have to be sincere. European and American art galleries historically are not only promoters of great art, they are creators of markets. That may be where you could shift focus. Your worth is that you are young, eating rat, living a life of passion, filth, messiness, body horror (per my comment on such) unique and unknown to those with money. They crave you, not for your art. That's worthless to them. The art, as photographs per Sontag in my other rec, is simply a receipt that they owned a piece of your lifestyle for a moment. No one who will buy your art will likely give a fuck about your art. Stop seeking those. Find the Glengarry Glen Ross customers seeking life, escape from drudgery, a need to prove something to themselves. Let your art be that for them. Enough bs theory, now for implementation. You won't sell your art, but you can sell the frustration, bloodsweattears, dedication, sacrifice that drips from your post. You can do so by simultaneously reminding yourself you are not creating ART but CREATING art. Your work and worth is not on a canvas. It's not the art. It's in you, the artist.

At least itā€™s out there. I get so caught up in my heart being in itā€™s most perfect form but if I could actually access that impossibility I wouldnā€™t grow from the process. Basic I know, but its good to be reminded of.

Isolating and mystical, the Red Turtle (La Tortue Rouge) is a film soaked in longing and respite. I liken it to Cast Away but as a more tender love story. Itā€™s quiet moments are bespoke of a greater understanding that things in our lives are underpinned by a changing world and that our proximity to nature is tied to how we care for one another. Not to mention the animation itself is amazing and has sketch-like quality I enjoy. I first watched it during the pandemic when moments of calm were needed and it certainly gave me what I was searching for- I hope you give it a look, you might start seeing Red Turtles too šŸŒŗ

A classic in its own right~ Spearheaded by Otomo (Creator of Akira) 3 Back-to-Back Anime films by 3 different directors. Magnetic Rose, Stink Bomb and Cannon Fodder: all as cohesive as they are stylishly animated. If youā€™re into Sci-fi and wild worlds with rich characters I highly recommend giving it a watch āœØ
