Big fan of how this show is reintroducing therapy speak into my life and is actually bringing back to center how I might greatly benefit from going back to the ol' psychoanalysis couch. The show is raw and vulnerable to the point of discomfort. I feel myself queasy at the reflection of some of my own behaviors playing back at me through another person.
Seeing this show makes me think all the more about how deeply relationships penetrate our lives. That our romantic partnerships can dig up pieces of what has hurt us in the past and sink them in even deeper. And through this vulnerability, we find that even though we might not have even known that these pieces that prick and cut us were there, they've actually been bleeding us dry all these years.
It's terrifying!! Which makes me appreciate how brave loving actually is. How brave being open and honest is, and how deeply beautiful it is that despite how difficult, the human spirit finds a way to keep saying yes to the grand and eternal challenge of relationships.
Love this show, highly recommend.

But also actual couples therapy if you need it.
I’m obsessed with this show. I love seeing people work through their issues (or not). I’m fascinated how Dr. Orna guides the process. I’m a therapist but this is not my forte at all and I am fascinated!

I wouldve never expected to be so enthralled by a show like this. It is literally just a show about couples in, well, couple’s therapy. But the simplicity of the concept adds to how endearing it is— the therapist, Orna, has this otherworldly air about her. Her stare is so piercing, and the questions she asks are ones make me go and think ā€œoh, of course she should ask that!ā€ I highly recommend giving it a shot. It’s shows like these that remind me how much I love the ins and outs of normal people’s lives. I’m incredibly curious about others.

I think my analyst is Freudian, but I have a soft spot for Jung because my parents are from LA. I love hearing analysts use terms like ā€œthe imp of the perverseā€ to talk about procrastination. I especially love the dream analysis, where they’ll tell some random guy the burning hearth in his dream means he’s taking on a feminine role in his marriage.

The MyPillow guy’s self-published memoir, read aloud in his thick Minnesotan accent. He’s a professional card counter, constantly $80k in the hole, blowing coke in his Chevy, chased by cops, threatened by drug dealers in Mexico, all while running 3 bars in greater Minneapolis. And that’s before he invents the pillow.
