๐ปBOUGHT AN IPOD :)
my dad passed down his ipod classic to me back in high school, but unfo i broke it after a while for being so clumsy. i always felt guilty about it and i loved it so dearly, so a few weeks ago i impulse bought one.
using it has been great and easy, because i've already had a digital music library for a while so using it is fun!
unfortunately i've set myself back from using it all the time for a few reasons...
1. im a last.fm user: ever since streaming became huge and convinient, i started using last.fm alongside it to track all my music. it's been a fun hobby ive kept up for years, since 2017! i like to use it specially because a great deal of the music i listen to (and is in my archives) isn't available on streaming, believe it not; so i love tracking them. the last.fm pro subscription is the only service besides apple music that i pay for. there are ways to scrobble tracks from your ipod, but...
2. i love the stock OS too much to let it go: when it bought this ipod, it came with rockbox preinstalled. rockbox is a opensource freeware for DAPs, which makes life a lot easier, specially for ipods - using itunes fucking sucks. specially on windows. since apple discontinued it for the sake of apple music, it is a buggy, laggy mess on windows and awful to use. so i tried using rockbox instead. it's very, very convinient. you can click, drag and drop files into the ipod like it's a thumbdrive, no itunes needed. you can still use the apple OS software, it's a dual boot situation. you can also download a fuckton of themes, games, and plugins for it. scrobbling is also easy. you just need turn scrobbling on, and after a day of listening, you can export the log and easily upload it to lastfm. its super easy to use. unfortunately, i love making things harder for myself. hence the title of this section. rockbox doesnt hold a candle to the original ipod OS. the themes are fun, yes. but i doesnt have the gorgeous Coverflow. im a visual person, i need to see my digital library by it's covers. and on rockbox, it doesn't have that! the albums are sorted only by it's names and you cant see any of the covers! ew! another setback ive encountered with rockbox, is that when you mod it, you can no longer transfer music to the apple os part of the box. it's still there, but you can't change it anymore. the songs and everything else are stuck there. so, i know there's a way to scrobble from itunes, but that brings me to my next issue...
3. im a linux user: recently i've changed from windows 11 to linux mint and it's been great! i've had a few issues setting up game controllers and learning how to play non-steam games on this thing, but i guess thats warranted after a lifetime of using windows. but, because of linux, i can't use itunes. ive tried - it doesn't recognize my ipod. ive heard that qt-scrobbler can gather track data from the ipod without the need of itunes, but because my ipod is modded, i cant to that without formatting it on windows.
so ive caused some trouble for myself. i really would like to use the stock OS full time, so i'm gonna try a workaround to get my scrobbles. i dont wanna shove this ipod deep into my closet so soon, so if anything, ill just stick with what works.
