I love this question!
My mom found them in a second-hand store when I was 11. I thought they were the most amazing shoes in the world and was super stoked to wear them to school. I remember other kids saying they looked like rain boots or asking if I wanted to join the army but that didn't bother me at all - it actually made me feel even cooler and more unique.
They are actually an older UK-made model and the previous owner signed them inside. As a kid I often wondered who Kathrine was and how we shared the same shoes.
The funny thing is that I can still wear them. When I got them they were slightly too big so I had to wear a thick sock, but now they are barely fitting me so I only wear them with thighs.
Ive had these for about 10 years and only retired them last year bc the sole and the leather both completely cracked. Have climbed mountains in these, wore them practically everyday (even in summer) and will still wear them on nights out (the spilled beer on the floor keeps me from slipping) (last picture is from 2017, yes I did not take good care of them, but they still lasted me ages)
Made by Cornell Lab of Ornithology It is both a birder handbook and an incredible tool for identifying birds from pictures, sounds and step-by-step questions. I enjoy learning more about local birds in my area or when I travel. It is completely free and without ads
this is worthy of celebration: the lack of video—autoplay video, noisy inane video, panicky video, algorithmic, dumb video, rabbit hole video, any video—on pi.fyi is a good thing
