can of bliss is a mainstay in the “hyperpop” umbrella of genres and subgenres alike, but their use of guitar in emo/post-hardcore styles sets their music apart from many others in this scene. this album is a beautiful retelling of a year of their life, and the album closer, while 12 minutes long, is one of the greatest tracks this genre has ever seen. this album also affirms my long-standing belief that furries and trans musicians make the best music.

oh man this is Controversial for people who were into emo music in like 2019/2020 (essay on the trials and tribulations of Fourth/Fifth Wave emo forthcoming), but what a cool band. dropping one of the all time modern classic angsty records "Greatest Hits", and then, though not without controversy, trying to craft a really unique power pop song. their new stuff? Not as good as "Greatest Hits" and the Title Fight-y stuff they have since tried to remove, but I like that they have a vision for songwriting! Also, Minnesota music! It's great!

This album remains #1 on the RateYourMusic Midwest Emo all-time chart, but has virtually no digital footprint beyond niche online communities and live videos from people who were lucky enough to experience their live shows in New Hampshire.
I discovered Brave Little Abacus nearly 10 years ago and I'm still grieving the fomo of being a teenager in Massachusetts during this time, yet having no idea that this special band was creating one of the best midwest emo albums a half hour away.

my friend was very excited to come work on music and claim his stickers for meeting my cats and making art with me. i get so much joy from the process of creating things to be enjoyed by others, and when “others“ means my personal relationships it feels even better :P
