I got a CD player this year and have really enjoyed being able to throw on an album sans phone when hanging out with friends or cooking. If you're just getting into it, start with a shittier CD player and see if you actually use it before investing in a nice one. My CD player also has a bluetooth feature for the moments I feel the urge to play something off of streaming.
In terms of where to buy, thrift thrift thrift. CDs are like $1 at Goodwill and they usually have decent selection (got my fav Cranberries CD from a Goodwill). Also!!! used bookstores are a great place to look for CDs. Also it's fun to grab CDs by artists you recognize but maybe albums you're unfamiliar with- great way to find new stuff

buying CDs is underrated!! the journey of going out to a record store or thrift store and picking out a couple of CDs to play in the car... theres nothing like it

I personally don't use it, but I've heard a lot of good things about Bandcamp, but of course there are limitations since it's mostly used by smaller artists. I don't like Apple Music, so I will never tell anyone to use it lol. I recommend physical media all day every day if it's within your means! If your computer doesn't have a disc drive, an external one can usually be found pretty cheap; I got one from Walmart for $20 a few years back, but with its usage it has more than made up for it. Discogs can be pretty reasonable if you don't live close to any thrift shops or record stores. Secondhand discoveries are extremely rewarding. In the end, you'll have an mp3, AND a CD for your CD player or car! But the most rewarding part is that you now own it forever. :-)

I've been burning more and more music into cd's lately and been enjoining the experience of physical media. My mom used to have a bunch of CD's and cassettes when I was a kid and have honestly been getting tired of paying a monthly subscription to music apps. I got a decent portable CD player on Amazon for like $20 and thrifted a bunch of blank CD's and a CD case at my local Goodwill.
