take a walk outside or visit a park and see how many birds you can spot with you eyes or hear with your ears. download the Merlin Bird ID app to shazam bird songs and track your sightings! buy some good binoculars for even better views.

If you need an excuse to go walk in the woods for hours on end, go to a marsh or forest and just watch birds. Feel the calm of the outdoors with the only sounds being your footsteps and the chirping of birds. Bring binoculars, or a camera, or nothing!! Nobody needs to even know what you're doing, you may even see a creature you've never seen before.

grab some binoculars and the merlin bird id and ebird apps and get out there and you WILL get the birding bug (not to be confused with the avian flu - if you want to avoid that one another hobby you can try is going vegan :P)

I have become a bird nerd and it’s taking over my life in a very positive way. To start: -Download the Merlin Bird ID app. You can use pictures or record audio to ID birds -(optional) Tell your mom you’re getting into birding because she might send you a bird book and a pair of old binoculars if you’re lucky -Get outside! I started by sitting on my porch with the app recording and learning about my neighborhood birds. Go to parks, hike, walk to work and look to the trees -Enjoy!:-)

after five years of grad school and subsequent job search, i can finally say i have successfully changed careers 😭 i start my new job counseling kids at a community mental health clinic on Monday. yesterday was my last shift at the grocery store that was an escape from my horrible corporate job and a sustaining force throughout grad school. it’s so bittersweet to leave the sweetest coworkers i’ve ever had and the most fun i’ve had at work. it’s immeasurably healing to quit a job for only good reasons. my coworkers got me a cake, everyone wrote notes in a card, and the goodbyes throughout the day made my heart swell. i even got to tell the good news to my favorite instacarter 🥺 after i clocked out for the last time, my friends joined me for gelato at the cafe and we strolled the store for a final time, this time as simply a loyal customer.
