Most prompted journals give heterosexual wedding invitation and feel insulting, as if I can't title a blank page with "Thoughts" or "Steps to Goal" or "Joy List" myself. (And the notebooks that say "notebook" on the outside? Ahh!)
But Moon Lists is intentional with the prompts and the design. Prompts like "Where do you instinctively return each summer, whether physically or mentally, real or imagined?" or "What desire for change is becoming unavoidably apparent?"—delicious! Instead of a teacher throwing busy work at you, it feels like someone holding your hand and walking you through the field of your own thoughts.

There's this one note on the app I fill with entries like a list– from the most joy-inducing feeling to the shortest happening– in a few words, anything that once mattered to me. Key point is sincerity. Anything that can catch you saying: "What a blessing it is to be alive!". It's thoroughgoing work but once you commit it's a very rewarding outcome. Your very own reflection in this world through what you notice. The sense that you're surrounded by proof of love, knowing that you belong in that space. I go over it again and again perfecting it, I try to stay true and aware. My friends began theirs at my incentive, we share our findings together and it mutually gives us inspiration. I wish everyone made a list of what they love. I'm kickstarting the project.

embraced my inner Didion and wrote down everything I wanted to pack for my honeymoon. it's weird to think of a list as "writing" but it definitely taps into a similar sensation. it's another form of character portrait. wrote about it for this week's newsletter.

Sesame Street is a brilliant show. We tend to glorify sloppy violence and ultra-dark themes but those are more than easy, in fact, they are often gratuitous and masturbatory! It takes much more intention to make something so beautiful, creative, and playful.
Play is one of the highest forms of present-ness with another person. Compliments, cheerleading, pep talks all have a short lifespan. They're impersonal and don't actually require much effort. Play is a beautiful way to communicate to someone else that they are worthy of your sustained attentions, time, and imagination, and the fact that Sesame Street managed to do that for thousands of kids is nothing short of true genius.

From Haymarket Books: "Now as ever, we recognize the root cause and ongoing perpetrator of violence in Palestine to be Israeli settler-colonialism and apartheid, and we stand in solidarity with Palestinians in their struggle for freedom."

The iPod Shuffle is a design miracle. Five buttons, no screen, your favorite 200 songs on random mode. The process of loading songs feels archaic and clunky today compared to the seamlessness of streaming, but it's worth it to use this adorable little device.
