I remember browsing my dad’s iTunes library to put music on my iPod, only adding the covers I liked, it ended up filled with bands like The Who, Queen, AC/DC and Guns n Roses, that changed everything... My first rock concert was Metallica when I was 14, It didn’t cross my mind at that moment that my mom could be worried but she checked my breath and eyes to make sure I didn’t drink alcohol or take drugs. This movie took me back to those days. ā€œAnd if you ever get lonely, you can just go to the record store and visit your friends.ā€

I used to hit pause during this scene to look up all the bands that were written on the chalkboard and then look for the cds at Half Price Books. Got me absolutely obsessed with music 🄲 Also it’s super silly <3

first thing that comes to mind that feels of the time is all the vitamin string quartet covers I was obsessed with lolololol I should get back into those!!
Also loved Hozier, Laura Gibson (LOVED her—listened to skin, warming skin on repeat), of mice and men, mumford and sons, band of horses, Lorde, the black keys, FOB, Panic!, All Time Low, a little 21 pilots, a little MCR, Halsey, and the Beatles (especially early in high school and especially the songs featured in across the universe (2007) but I also loved paperback writer for some reason).
Very tail end of my senior year I got more into broadway and was obsessed with everything from Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812 (which was SNUBBED for the Tony by dear evan Hansen 🤮)
Didn’t do a lot of country, was mostly into country in elementary and middle school, then got back into it after graduating college, both from nostalgia and from a desire to preserve that part of me when I decided to move to the east coast.
The first ones I mentioned were from streaming(not a lot since unlimited data wasn’t a thing for me at the time and my parents also weren’t paying for Spotify for me so the ads were annoying), my iTunes library, YouTube to mp3 files I put on my phone back when it was easier to do that, and CDs. But I also liked the hard rock and classic rock stations on the radio for my drives to and from school.
Spotify also tells me I liked death cab for cutie and needtobreathe more than I remembered lol

Class of 21 šŸ’”šŸ’” I didn’t go to class in person for more than a month and kinda memoryholed the last half of high school because of it. So many months of my life are almost completely blacked out and I can’t fit more important events on a timeline anymore. It’s super weird and I haven’t summoned the desire to work through it yet.. I vaguely remember being into early Kanye for a few weeks around graduation. I was raised with my parentsā€˜ love for Springsteen and grunge and the like which is an ideal foundation. I really loves The Pillows and still do, I watched FLCL and Samurai Champloo pretty closely together in like 2017(?). I distinctly remember finishing Champloo in a hotel on an overnight cross country trip. Those soundtracks have stuck with me since then.
I think I just didn’t listen to a lot of music though.. never used Spotify or anything so I would just pull videos on YouTube when I wanted to hear something. I had a flash drive I’d plug into my car when I wanted something specific. I had a couple Bowie albums on there randomly.. Springsteen of course, Michael Jackson, a couple Tyler albums, sonic highways by foo fighters.. the massive bulk of what I’m into now only really developed after high school when I started thinking for myself and seeking new stuff out.. part of me feels like I had two separate ā€œgaining sentienceā€ moments being early childhood of course and then later again as I turned 19-20.. this got off track but was interesting to reminisce on !!

I like to draw the covers of the albums I listen to every week and write down my favorite songs.

someone speaks passionately about their favorite book? I read it! You loved this album I never heard of? I listen to it! Movies, experiences, activities, I love to try it all, maybe I’ll like it or not but I feel like I get to know all of a you a little and more importantly I learn about myself, here I feel free to embrace who I l am, I might not be super interesting but I’m slowly becoming more me. 🌱
Shoutout to @SAYLOR for recommending Bluebeard, I’m halfway and I am really enjoying it!
