After 2+ years, I finally sat down to finish Stray. While there are some tense moments, it’s largely a relaxing game of puzzles and exploration with hopepunk themes. It makes me want to go back and play it all over again.

Iā€˜d let a letsplay of the game run in the background throughout my day and I’ve already gone through 3 of them. The concept is an awkward person’s dream: being able to rewind on a conversation until you say the right thing. But what makes me linger on it for 3 letsplays and counting is the atmosphere. I love being in the shoes of a quiet creative type like Max in an idyllic campus on the cusp of realising her artistic dreams and being able to feel again, wonder for the world and aspiration for the future suspended in time. The pause menu music alone is delicate and introspective. I also think this may be the only game where replaying it over doesn’t kill it because it’s all about going back (in time) and reconsidering the possibilities, like it would make sense to the story. Moments in the game will happen, (are) happening, (and) happened šŸŽ¶

You can finish the whole thing in an afternoon but the puzzles are clever, the two leads have good chemistry, and the soundtrack is very pretty. Overall just a neat little adventure game

Bought the game yesterday and have already put 3 hours into it. I LOVE the design and the gloomy/ eerie vibes it gives off.

I’m not a parent and do not plan to be. Kids can wear me out fast with their high energy and noise level; it leaves me very over-stimulated. But it’s pretty extreme when people say they ā€hate kidsā€ and I often feel it’s a reflection of their childhood and beliefs around how kids ā€œshould be.ā€ That they were expected to be quiet, obedient, and out of the way by their parents when they were little.
It’s fucking hard to be a kid. You’re dealing with a rapidly-changing body and underdeveloped brain, managed by flawed adults who are enforcing boundaries that you do not understand. It’s confusing and hard to manage your feelings and honestly just a lot.
People are impatient with kids when theyā€˜re brand new to the world and figuring it all out, and this is a time kids need a friend the most. Children can also be teachers to adults with how they are less habituated to the world. They teach us how to be free and open-hearted and silly and imaginative.
A good practice is to be kinder and gentler with kids. If that feels difficult, start with gentleness toward your inner child. Maybe that’s the child in your life that needs your attention and kindness most.

I meant to post this yesterday. Absolutely beautiful morning for walk.
This morning is also beautiful but in a spring rain kind of way.
