It's autobiographical of the director who is a woman. The blurb on Letterboxd puts it really well, "she‘s forced to re-examine her first sexual relationship and the stories we tell ourselves in order to survive." I haven't seen it in a while but the subject is inherently sad and triggering so maybe not great for a group but I really loved it. I think it would be interesting for a film club though especially since they casted an age accurate actress for the flashback scenes and I think in general it would spark a lot of interesting conversations! It has Elizabeth Debicki, Frances Conroy, horses. It's very the body keeps the score, however I have not read that book.
And Laura Dern! Hello?! Laura! Dern!

Went to the theater after my shift yesterday to catch a showing and it made me want to treat myself better
What a movie though. The cinematography is very strong and I appreciated its feminist commentary. I highly recommend it if you don't mind body horror, which I thought wasn't even that bad but then the final act happened lmao

It’s an Aussie movie set in Tasmania during initial colonisation. It’s brutal, less so on really heavy gore (though it’s definitely in there with the historical brutality and Aboriginal genocide) and all that fun stuff, but like, psychologically. Probably my favourite horror/thriller in recent years and my favourite Aussie one - but it’s a hard rewatch for me. No spoilers but I was just *drained* by the end of it. Like “oh. wow. well. that was good, but *god*.” Had to stay seated staring at the screen for a good while afterwards with teary eyes

Julia Ducournau's follow up to her debut, Raw. I could not handle this movie! It's incredible and also supremely uncomfortable. Fascinated by this French magical realism, but I can't watch it again.

I drew this for a project a few years ago based off a photo of myself at 4 and my god, that’s a lot of emotion for four. The melodrama is a lot yet it has persisted. Along with the belief that one misplaced clip will fix a bundle of unkempt hair.
It’s the portrait that captures my essence the best.
