It's autobiographical of the director who is a woman. The blurb on Letterboxd puts it really well, "she‘s forced to re-examine her first sexual relationship and the stories we tell ourselves in order to survive." I haven't seen it in a while but the subject is inherently sad and triggering so maybe not great for a group but I really loved it.
I think it would be interesting for a film club though especially since they casted an age accurate actress for the flashback scenes and I think in general it would spark a lot of interesting conversations!
It has Elizabeth Debicki, Frances Conroy, horses. It's very the body keeps the score, however I have not read that book.
And Laura Dern! Hello?! Laura! Dern!
