I DONT WANT SOMETHING NEW IF IT IS PLASTIC!! no i don’t care if the plastic was recycled!! bring back the hype of alchamizing by blending varieties of natural fibres or metals into alloys to use the properties of BOTH materials. bring back clay and wood and glass. (i have no choice but to get new things made of plastic. thanks for listening to how i’m upset about it)

and it's so expensive even if it's plastic- like clothes made of mostly synthetic fibers. WHY are brands acting like something that's almost entirely polyester is an investment piece and should be priced like one???

@SOULFUL_OLD_MAN_SUNSHINE That Part!!! fast fashion consumption is such a huge polluter, and even thrifting doesn’t work anymore. The most difficult environmental change i’ve ever made is only buying new if it’s a natural fiber. and dont get me Started on fabric labeling…

And I DONT mean overpriced, greenwashed goods that pray on your fear of ecological harm… I mean altoid tins, palmetto grits in the cloth bag, talenti gelato containers. There is something comforting about the way we decide which containers are worth keeping… I don’t know this is sort of a half formed thought based on the fact that I am running out of grits lol

I really take all inspiration in this from my parents, but always have a canvas tote, either in your car or purse (ideally not one you buy, my dad’s were always collected from random ornithology conferences), and if you do have to take a plastic bag, it must be reused for trash or dog shit. old pickle jars should always store a homemade sauce, or produce that you’re now pickling. plant local nut and fruit trees if you have a yard, and always grow your own herbs. walk anywhere you can, especially when traveling. bike everywhere when the weather is nice. don’t buy replacements for things unless you absolutely have to. don’t rush to buy everything at once, you have your whole life to build a home, and it’ll be a bitch if you ever have to move. a home at most needs one tv, anything else is extravagant and corrodes the soul. read a book. try the library. you will not find the answer to climate change in consumerism.

with so much Stuff in the world i find the whole concept of buying something brand new a little absurd when it’s so easy to find pre-loved things that are still functional or easily repurposed. every time i deviate from that belief i end up regretting it. this includes every piece of technology i own, a dress i bought last minute to go to a fancy event i was underdressed for, my blender, my electric razor (not so guilty that i bought this new, but still wish i’d splurged and gotten one that would last longer - i can just tell this one is gonna self destruct as soon as it works out how), my docs, and fabric i’ve bought new rather than thrifted. even with socks and undies i feel like i could be making them with thrifted fabric instead of buying the mass produced versions

it is a very weird feeling to visit a new state, one even thousands of miles away from where you grew up and you still find bits and pieces in the scenery and have a cozy feeling… like ahh yes, the trees seem the same, there is still random billboards lit up on the highway, people smile in the grocery store back at me …. somehow, someway, i’m right where i should be. the world follows me. i will never truly leave what i call my home, it’s all right here with me, following me, and guiding me. “I want to go home, I want to go home, I want to go home, but what I mean, what I am grasping for, is not a place, it’s a feeling. I want to go back, but back where?”
