If you can, it's just a job. They don't care about you so you shouldn't care so much about them. If you can find mental space to let your mind wander, take notes for ideas you want to do or even sneak in equipment or a sketchbook for doodling. This obviously doesn't work for all types of jobs, especially if it includes manual labor or any type of person-to-person care. Work isn't family. Sneak in time for yourself.

Worst part is how demanding the job is. If I don’t work my ass off And get done what needs to be done, I gotta come in on my days off, giving me even less time

@KIAN that’s real. I’m assuming the job market is just as difficult for you as it is for me so there’s no way around that. I would also look into checking into if you’re being mistreated with the amount of work you’re shouldering from them. Do the other employees feel the same way?

@KIAN in my job, I’m the only person doing the thing I’m doing, so I really have no way of knowing. apparently, in other stores in our company, there are people who can do what I do, and more, so I’m lost as to what I’m doing wrong. and yes, the job market is most definitely difficult rn, damn near impossible to find a decent entry level job

Even when you’re drowning in work it’s important to take time to ignore your responsibilities and yap and lounge with those around you.

As an artist who gives 0 fucks about the flow and capital of industry, I encourage every person who is forced to work a meaningless (that’s the key word) day job to find every possible way they can to take bathroom and smoke breaks on the clock. If there ever is a time to mindlessly scroll the internet, it’s while on the clock.

it’s sort of hard to get caught. my boss has no clue that I’m actually just sitting around thinking instead of sitting around and thinking for them.

I know burnout is real and sleep is important, but showing up for your friends and nurturing the relationships by taking them up on their kindness is real too. Go on that long drive to make it to your friend’s goodbye party, you could make new relationships there. Make a real plan to visit them in their new home. Or see your friend at work when they said they’ll give you free appetizers and tell them all the hot gossip. See their show. The culture in the US at least, makes it really hard to maintain friendships as you get older so when someone provides you a clear way of strengthening that bond, reconsider it. Caveat of course is level of friendship and if that kind of attention is wanted and also sometime you do really need to shut down for a bit … but make it up to them after, bake something or visit them later, etc.

This is an amazing resource of old video art, sound art, poetry, and everything. Every time I remember this exists; I get so much out of it. Apparently, it's no longer active but its archives are still preserved... so that's awesome that we can still check it out.

I’d look up different art residencies. Somewhere where there’s a nice pile of artists gathering together, taking turns making meals. Little hopeful moments.
