my friend showed me how to torrent minecraft when we were 11 and since then i have never paid for any software or audiovisual streaming service (unfortunately&shamefully i'm too attached to my spotify playlists and friends activity tab)
the absolute beauty of gaining access to a piece of art in the form of tiny bits scattered throughout strangers' computers... its like magic to me
in march 2024 i downloaded a 13gb file of the stan brakhage criterion anthology from a barely functional chinese website and since then my computer has automatically distributed over 587gb of stan brakhage films to other people throughout the entire world

I subscribe to a bunch of shit, share log-ins for others and get sent some screeners, but nothing compares to being asked by a friend to illegally locate the third movie spinoff of a Danish sitcom or a German TV documentary about Michael Jackson for free online. It's hunting and gathering for millennial men. The big streaming platforms suck so bad anyway, they flatten most coolness out of culture and they try to trick you into watching stuff in the basest ways. At least I feel accomplished when I do some "Hackers"-style Googling, hit half a dozen dead links and then have to close a swarm of popups like I'm catching flies out of thin air just to watch four innings of a Yankees game.

you can listen to thousands of radio stations all over the world!!! the main screen looks like google earth with green dots where stations are located and you can move around and listen/save them. there are also some unusual ones like audio noir which plays 1940s radio dramas, payphone radio where you can listen to random people's payphone messages, i found a few that play 24/7 eastern european orthodox chants etc
most of all i love going to more remote/obscure places like mauritius, kamchatka, congo, faroe islands etc and discovering their charts lol
