The Nickel is a tiny grindhouse cinema that’s just opened in London. It’s by far my new favourite cinema, feels authentically sleazy and intimate and riddled with film nerds and perverts.

Support our independent cinema screens!! I am a Londoner so I have memberships with BFI, Prince Charles and Picturehouse and it is totally worth it, especially as watching movies takes up a good chunk of my personality and I dislike watching things at home. Advanced screenings, access to smaller films, discounted tickets are all great but it’s also just nice to support these places who do so much in preserving the British independent film scene which is currently in an abysmal state. Curzon, Everyman, The Garden, Genesis, ICA and many more are also all great and I would be members of them all if I could. Big up BFI especially because I probably wouldn’t have got as far in both my career and love of film without them, and the Northampton Filmhouse in my hometown which was my first independent cinema. These are of course London based examples but I encourage everyone to support their local independents šŸ«¶šŸ»

I’ve referenced my favourite independent movie theatre on here a couple of times, but I feel so passionately that it needs its own spot. This theatre is so awesome. I don’t even have any photos of their vintage movie memorabilia in their concession booth or the comfy couches on the upper floor. Since my boyfriend has been gone I’ve been going here at least once a week. Sometimes with a friend, often alone. For a membership price of $16 I save $4 on each ticket, it’s insane. I can always be confident I will like the movie if I go to the Mayfair. They sometimes have newer additions, but only the really good ones. They’re hosting a John-Luc Godard month in July and I know it’ll be life changing.

I think everyone should start their day by breaking conventions, just a sprinkle of chaos in the morning & you feel absolutely fabulous!
