Long thoughts on the movies I saw, books I read, and others. And I meander into more meaningful things.

lots of gems it’s hard to isolate one!!! But it made me think of why I like this place and getting real recs and discovering things Some include “The problem is that subscribing to niche film services and hunting down bird-centric romances on YouTube are the acts of a self-selecting group—it takes money or effort or both. This ghettoizes lovers of the strange into a “fandom,” that most pejorative of internet taxonomies. Classifying love as fandom damns the most affecting and holy of reactions to art—recognizing yourself in others—into just another mode of material consumption. It turns lovers into shoppers and then sells them Funko Pop figurines of John Cassavetes. It turns connection into loneliness.” “He describes how sailors used to navigate by looking at Venus, clearly visible even by day. This planet is still there. It hasn’t exploded. It’s still in the same relative position in the sky at the same time. But according to Davis, with the advents of the astrolabe, more accurate sea charting, and satellite GPS systems, humans can no longer see it. As far as collective perception goes, if we don’t use something, it doesn’t exist.”

Blog roundup of my media thoughts from last month that is definitely not late. The highlight was experiencing The Before Trilogy for the first time. Also, I think I learned the origins of Tumblr's obsession and celebration of the Ides of March.

we come to this place
to yap. we come to pi.fyi to laugh, to cry, to care. because we need that, all of us. that indescribable feeling we get when we’re able to customize our profiles and we see creativity we’ve never seen before. not just entertained, but somehow reborn together. dazzling recommendations on a huge desktop, or mobile, screen. kindness that i can feel. somehow, social networking feels good in a place like this. our pi.fyi community feels like the best parts of us, and being perfectly imperfect feels perfect and powerful
 because here
we are. pi.fyi, we make social media
better.

today i held open the door for an elderly couple and the husband said “thank you so much miss!” with so much shock & appreciation in his voice & on his face, i immediately responded “of course!” no one should be that surprised to receive a no brainer act of kindness
 get kinder today, right now—not later ! ! !

i’m just gonna say it: the true secret sauce ingredient to being cool, is getting older— you’ll never be as cool at 20, as you will be at 30—it’s a fact; the more you know about who you truly are, the cooler you become.
