This sounds simple but you gotta stay busy in some way. Have a project, a bucket list, a goal. Learn to play music, write poetry, travel to cool places you’d never have gone if you didn’t take the time off. Learn to draw weird little guys. Create! also highly recommend a daily exercise routine (even just walking), getting out of the house/apartment, getting a silly part time job (cafe, doggy daycare, something fun and low stakes). Stay busy!!

once I realized that most days I spent entirely at home made me feel awful when they should make me feel rested, I started making a point of getting out of the house on days where I have nothing planned. you can really go anywhere as long as it's a place that you're comfortable and can waste some time in. I would usually go to a coffee shop and do homework/browse the web on my laptop, which I could just as easily do at home but it felt better than doing it there because I actually had to get up, get ready, get outside, and interact with people even if minimally. it just helped me stay grounded. nowadays if i have to stay home I make a point to force myself to get up at a normal time (sleeping until past noon will make you feel like you can't do anything because it's already so late you migh as well just stay in) and do something creative, usually that helps the time fly if you get engrossed in it for a while. having a hobby is a great timesink that actually feels productive. if the weather is nice, just go outside and take it in. if you can walk around your part of town, just putting on music an meandering can be a good way to get familiar with your area or find something new to try. I'm a fan of biking so if there's a pedestrian trail in your city just get on and ride. I've found that putting on music and going at a chill pace I can end up wasting hours taking in the sights and vibing and actually get some excercise too. in general, moving around and getting out are huge. you don't even need to be doing anything ""productive"". but if you must stay inside, get out of the bedroom and find an activity you can get lost in for a while, stimulate your mind a bit.

things ive found have helped: - doing less during the day. ik this isnt always an option cause we all have to work, but if you do have things taking up energy that you can cut out, i recommend working towards cutting it - try to not put as much pressure on yourself. you cant run a marathon if you havent started small. sometimes i just try to draw something on a post it note daily - (my favorite) write down the basic thoughts during the day, expand them when you have time. i have a note on my phone full of random thoughts and words and when im feeling stuck, ill go through and pick out the easiest to start working on. for example, i have “handsaw” directly above “the pornification of violence” obv the second is a much more intense and “worthwhile” as a concept, but it is easier to doodle whatever “handsaw” means. its also so fun to have a huge list of the batshit looney things that have crossed my brain, because when i feel empty and heavy i can look at it and remember that i do have creative ideas. - give yourself grace. being a creative is exhausting. its okay to feel utterly overwhelmed by life and the pressure to create. our bodies tell us what we need, and if you need a nap, honor how you feel and spend some time resting <3

- eat food that u like (bonus points if u cook a recipe, I find it very therapeutic) - dont procrastinate on cleaning - do it at the start of ur day and end of ur day (also therapeutic) - move ur body!! dance, walk, run, stretch!!!!!!!! it’ll help regulate ur parasympathetic nervous system - cold showers stimulate neural pathway development :) - be careful with what songs u listen to, make sure the lyrics aren’t..erm condescending bc I believe words u tell urself/listen to are very powerful. - pursue long-form media & hobbies to refocus ur attention span perhaps into a book, a feel-good movie/tv show OR paint, journal, sew clothes, make a bracelet. - explore ur city! pottery classes, farmers markets, botanical gardens, thrift stores, new park, new food spots - always indulge in ur appearance even if u aren’t going anywhere. Wear clean clothes, brush ur hair, be hygienic, indulge in skincare. :)
