one of the greatest acts of self preservation i've found is the practice of synthesizing life through art. the routine of "making" is incredibly vital, especially in these times and I find writing to be a beautiful way to kinda check in with yourself and cultivate something truthful. when you create without expectation you give validity to the idea of not having to achieve perfection or appease others. to find something you're passionate about and devote yourself to it no matter what the outcome is (sorry to be that person) a radical act! i love writing my shitty poetry because it reminds me that not every thought is profound or desires to be shared and the real joy of it (at least for me) is being able to expel things that might be plaguing me at that moment in time.

This is prolly a therapy practice or smthn and I don't know it lol BUT i think it's v refreshing and healing for the soul to spend 30 mins/day simply creating something from scratch. It can be anything, like: - A journal entry - Rough draft of a story you have rattling in your head - A silly doodle with no rhyme or reason - A random collage - Improv on the piano/guitar/instrument of choice - Embroidering on an old shirt you're trying to revive It's easy to get caught up in the gears of life and responsibility; getting into the small habit of creating something new is a good way to stay in touch with yourself and remember that you've got that spark in you <3

a lot of hobbies pushed to us are surrounded by consumption. we watch shows, movies. consume albums, buy clothes and items, etc. not that there's anything inherently wrong with consuming, but consumption without creation breeds dullness. we all have creativity within us. it gets beaten out when there are expections to commoditize your creativity. you feel the need to be the best, to be perfect in the first shot at something. creation without the expectation of consumption is how we push back. i write poetry, even if it sucks. i drew a pig going to bed in a room full of disproportinately sized furniture because i felt like it. i'm looking to start dancing again. the world has so much that's yet to be made, and we're blessed with the ability to contribute to that body of art.

Pull a joni mitchell and engage in arts that differ from your primary to inform it at a later time. If you lean more toward visual arts try poetry, song writing, music making, acting/performances for the self, crochet, clay, claymation, videography, sound collection, whistling, discovering new sounds you can make etc. Often when i want to create but i feel tired or uninspired i try to use still life or my surroundings— BUT If thats boring i ask myself a question and let my train of thought ramble -> connecting that rambling to my pen on paper Honestly setting your inner critic to rest and creating things that are imperfect is actually incredible! More often than not letting first drafts be final for a moment allows you to discover what you crave to create.

as many very wise people have said comparison is the thief of fucking joy. I mean you hear these things time and time again but the validity of the statement never really reigns true until you are on the other side of it; in the muck, reflecting on all the ways in which you are not where you are "supposed" to be or meandering over the experiences everyone else around you has had. I won't lie to you and say that I fully believe that the derailments we face or the adversities one might endure are necessarily all products of "higher" teachings BUT I do believe that we rob ourselves of so much dignity when we use these hardships as anchors to what the rest of the world is pushing upon you. it is okay to take your time. it is okay to fail and not know how to pick back up the pieces. society SHOULD encourage everyone to move in accordance to their own natural rhythm and not make people conform into these perceived notions of growth. move at your own pace. we are all flailing around trying to figure this shit out. seek fulfillment as you chose. be gentler with yourself. being alive is already hard enough, and you've made it this far... and that pretty fucking incredible to me!
