short, sweet, funny, thought provoking. basically, a bored housewife in 1960s california finds out her rich ex boyfriend named her as the executor of his estate in his will. what follows is sometimes funny, sometimes strange, always deeply interesting, as oedipa becomes obsessed with a possible conspiracy involving postage stamps. i'm making myself want to read it again lowkey

this book is kinda hilarious. it’s a bunch of short stories/memoirs from comedy writer and playwright lauren weedman.
my experience reading this reminded me of watching the office actually. it was almost unbearable to read these hyper cringe accounts but by the mid point of the book it all clicked and it became both endearing and hilarious. by the end of the book, i felt like i had a new friend :)
also, i found it on my mom’s bookshelf with the second hand bookstore receipt in it from 2009. she had highlighted a handful of lines about having a boring sex life. hope things have gotten better for her since, but i dare not ask

This book is terribly sad in an addictive exciting way. I plan to read more, maybe all of her books.

Bit of a different rec because this one’s a play, but after only its 50ish pages i was left in tears and … i guess overwhelmed. Set in Chile in 1990, just after becoming a democratic state following years of military dictatorship, Dorfman explores the social struggle of the Chilean people in moving forward; whether to uncover the truth surrounding the atrocities of the past years or to simply forget them completely to keep the peace. The relationships between the three characters throughout the highly captivating storyline (outwardly normal couple turned to intense hostage situation) act as a microcosm for this societal dilemma. I love this play so much and would totally recommend it but also attach a TW as some of the topics covered are very heavy. Enjoy!! 😊

no more beating dead horses when it comes to movies, tv shows, etc. the movie doesn't need a sequel. the show doesn't need to go on for 27 seasons. we need more stories that are written with an ending in mind from the beginning.

best thing you can do for yourself is become extremely comfortable with being alone and doing stuff by yourself. at a young age i forced myself to get comfortable with that and now it's my default state-- i LOVE doing stuff by myself. my coworker is a person who literally cannot go places by herself and i have been trying to help her get more comfortable doing things solo because it's very freeing. everyone should be happy to go do stuff by themselves, it's lovely!
