it’s so sad when people say that they hate country music. i get that the modern day patriotic/nationalistic country pop leaves a sour taste, but, there is a huge difference between modern day country and old timey outlaw country. artists used to sing about the faults in the prison system and injustices that the working class faced, the lyrics used to be very poetic and raw. so i recommend listening to johnny cash, hank williams and woody guthrie.

YESSS when someone asks if i like country i always have to say it’s complicated because it kinda is - i HATE new country with a passion. it’s repetitive, too pop-y, i hate the lyrics, etc etc. but i loveee old country like johnny cash and willie nelson and whatnot

are you familiar with the history of the banjo and african captives in the US? absolutely insane history to get to know — we (white ppl) basically stole country from african captives and then pushed them out of the genre. crazy coincidence that beyoncé won best country album and then they created a SEPARATE country category for “non traditional country” when …. sweetie (@the recording academy)…. black people invented that babe <3 UGH i could talk about this for hours

I’m talkin about the classics. I love that spine chilling outlaw shit with lyrics about scary ghost cowboys, sleeping in a boxcar on a moving train, prison blues, repenting for your sins, and being heartbroken. From albums like The Louvin Brothers’ “Satan Is Real” (1959), to Johnny Cash's “Live At Folsom Prison” (1968), to Bruce Springsteen’s “Nebraska” (1982), I can’t get enough!

You hate country music because you’re unwilling to explore and allow the top 100’s to spoon feed you pop country like Jason Aldean or Morgan Wallen down your lazy throat. Real country music lives n dies with a story, not brand insertion of false patriotism fed by post 9/11 fears.
