(This is gonna be a long one)
All the kids have IEP’s (IndividualizedĀ EducationĀ Program) …. And THANK GOD. Context: On the side I babysit quite a lot. One of these amazing kiddos just graduated Kindergarten! His dad was explaining to me they have a meeting every month to re evaluate his needs and how he's doing and such with his IEP. Curious I asked how hard it was to get him one when he is so young AND in public school. As I remember how hard it was to get one when I was in school. Anyway His dad explained to me that almost everyone in his class has one or at least a 504 plan. In fact he told me (Jokingly) ā€œI mean if you don't have one , that means something wrongā€, and honestly…yeah. I always thought it was crazy to ask kids to sit still inside a classroom for the whole day. Obviously I know there is definitely more nuance to this topic that I have no idea about as Im not a parent or a educator. Although bottom line I am glad these accomadations are more accessible to family's and there kids!

This was sad yet fascinating. I'm sorry. I laughed a little bit at the title 😭. I know it's hard to deal with children but how are you making children your enemies?! Especially at such a young age.

I've been teaching a sewing camp. Today, for the first time, I had a girl sew through her finger with the machine. Not the end of the world, but a little gory. One of the admin I had to report it to was so bitchy about this little girl. Being young and clumsy once, it hurt to listen to an adult talk so meanly behind a child's back. Let alone one who is earnestly putting the work into her passions. She's not giving up either, I'll see her back at the machine tomorrow. Kids learn so differently and at such different paces. Some adults will just never understand that. What I don't understand is why those adults are working in our schools.

i was in 6th grade and i just started a new school bc i moved around a lot. i struggled tying my shoes up until high school (neurodivergence related i’m sure) and so i would usually ask my friends to tie them nice and tight for me (i honestly am still kind of ass at tying my shoes tight now). bc i just started a new school, i had no friends to tie my shoes. i literally just let those laces fly didn’t tuck them in or anything.
on the first beep of the pacer test i tripped, fell and slid on my stomach for what felt like forever across the gym. big ass gym. everyone got quiet. 6th, 7th and 8th graders were all there. bc of this i had to admit that i couldn’t really tie my shoes bc a gym teacher tied them for me :/ mortifying all around.
i happened to stay at this school in 7th grade and i remember at least three times when i would meet a kid for the first time and they’d be like ā€œoh you were that girl who slid across the gym during the pacer testā€. to make matters worse, i also didn’t get to retake my test and failed gym that day. mind you they had to restart the test on account of my distraction.
i know ive done a plethora of embarrassing things that make me scream to think about so ive blocked most of them out of my memory. this stands out the most at the moment.

The older I get the more comments I get saying I look so much like my dad. I used to hate it but now whenever I see him, I find comfort that I reflect not only his physical but also i have learned and live some of the best traits if his.

Sometimes the days are just to much and you gotta let yourself show the inside despair on your face.
