Speculative time traveling science fiction critiquing war, what’s not to like?
Not sure when this happened, but I used to be a voracious reader as a child, but then I stopped. I physically couldn’t without fully needing to recharge for hours and I was able to read this book without needing to struggle and charge again.
A lot of my love is tied up in that pride I felt in reading and enjoying for the first time in years.

vonnegut was such a genius. there's a section early in slaughterhouse-five that always makes me cry, when he's talking about lot's wife turning back to soddom and gomorrah, and he says "and i love her for that, because it was so human. so she was turned into a pillar of salt. so it goes."

… and actually enjoying it. In the past year i’ve finally nailed down my taste/hit a groove with pleasure reading and now I can’t stop. I do a lot of reading recs in a way that I almost feel self-conscious about but I can’t contain it - truly bringing me crazy amounts of peace in my life right now.
When I was 19-22ish, I spent a lot of time reading what I thought I *should* be reading and ending up spending 3 months trudging through a book just to say I did. I blame Red Scare Podcast. Why was I 19 thinking i needed to read Houellebeq and Lasch?
Now I fly through pages and (mostly) love it all. or feel like I got something from it at least. Right now Iā€˜m reading Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver and loving it, can spend hours at a time with it. My favorite book is probably If on a winters night a traveler by Italo Calvino. Happy to get more recs always.

Trying to re-enter my literate era and exit my iPad baby era because ebooks are not cutting it… I finally explored the library in my new neighborhood and it was glorious. I forgot how exciting it is to leave the library with a veritable HAUL! when I was a kid I would check out like 30 books at a time, fiction and nonfiction, just whatever piqued my interest as I walked through the shelves. Returning them was always an ordeal where I would have to go through the receipt item by item to make sure I didn’t miss anything. I exercised self control this time so it wasn’t that extreme but I can tend to want to flit from book to book so getting a mix of titles felt right.
I’m most excited about Joyce Carol Oates’ newest novel Butcher and will probably start with that because her writing is addictive and I love her deranged fanfiction accounts of real life historical subjects that end up feeling more real than the actual facts (lol I’ll drop the synopsis in the comments because it’s kind of long)

I was craving to read a book but because of all the social media attention span i was always postponing it until i don’t know when. However, yesterday i gave it a chance, i said to myself ’just 5 minutes, just one page, if it’s not interesting then it’s fine you can try it another time’ … well to my surprise by now i am already at the 87 page. Honestly it was not as hard as i imagined, the ’just one page’ made me more curious about what’s gonna happen in the next page… Maybe it was the writing or narration but i am hooked for sure by now.
what motivated me the most is my bestfriend, she reads a lot and always always encourages to just pick a book and read it no matter how small it is and besides making myself proud i think if she knew that i finished a book she will be proud too.
Well yesterday before bed, i read 10pages and was curious to know the reviews so i went to tiktok and got a lot of spoilers but that’s fine it only got me more interested. Currently Reading ā€œThe Secret History By Donna Tarttā€

Don’t have to buy a digicam or take a picture. I am sure a mental note could work too (or drawing or actually writing things down).
It’s just a little practice in acknowledging the beauty in all the ā€œregularā€ things around you.
Appreciate the not-so-obvious ethereal, enigmatic, enchanting, or whatever around you.
This isn’t a new idea and, previously, I thought doing this was bullshit.
Yes, this is all an excuse to show my photos too, but I swear increased attunement does wonders.
Enjoy your day everyone.
