If you‘ve always believed you have straight hair with some wonky wavy pieces, you probably have some type of wavy hair!! get yourself some mousse and ride the wave

firstly i would see what kind of hair type you have in terms of porosity (how your hair takes on moisture), texture (how thick your strands are), and density (how much hair you have). so my hair can probably get a little wavier than yours (finnicky lol 2c-3a), and is low-porosity, fine (texture), and normal/medium (density). for me, getting volume and a pattern isn’t too hard (esp with styling) but product builds up and weighs my hair down easily i would buy small sizes of different products that match your hair type and test them out. you might try a light gel (clear eco/ice?) or mousse maybe. wavy hair also usually does well with a salt water spray (not your mother’s has one). i recently have tried the miss jessie’s pillow soft curls cream and liked it. but my usual routine has been just scrunching with a small amount of gel and then diffusing also, you don’t mention how you wash/dry your hair - if you aren’t doing so, cold water + cotton t shirt instead of a towel + diffusing with a hair dryer will make a big difference. and always brush before you shower or when you condition, but never during/after you’re drying it i hope this helps!

i think messy and frizzy curls are the way to go. i grew up with my wavy hair always being tangled and messy, but when i brushed them, they would get super frizzy and wouldn’t go down. i think instead of shaming people for them, saying they look ratty, and making them insecure, we should instead embrace them and acknowledge their natural and raw beauty

a family member recently passed and I found myself perusing through his facebook profile and looking at photos of him. I thought about how some of his features specifically show up on my own face - from the way my eyebrows are arched to the bow of my lips. Then I saw his funny little posts about the NBA. and I recall all the times I would have to watch these games while he babysat my sister and I. Years down the road, I formed my own appreciation for the sport and understood it mainly because of him. all that to say, even when the people we love are gone, it’s nice to know that little pieces of them are scattered amongst the lives they’ve touched.
