feels like i just hand-wrote them some long-form prose and mailed it to them at no cost or worry that it won’t make it to their door. the surprise of seeing your pal in your inbox rather than yet another email from work is rejuvenating. plus, i get to attach articles and pictures and anything else my friends might find interesting. it is beautiful. it is swift. it is free.

Nothing is sweeter than spontaneous mail!! Go to your local post office, buy some stamps, sit down, monologue your current feelings/thoughts/ideas/drama/complaints on paper and send it off. If you're lucky, your friends will write you back and if you're like me, you can hoard every letter you've ever received and then read them back and revel in your own nostalgia.

I love hand-writing a letter. the delayed gratification of it, talking about anything and nothing, decorating it with cartoons and drawings and stickers. Sending little extras and photographs with tiny micro-playlists scrawled out on the back of it. It takes at least an hour to craft a good letter, one worth receiving and replying to, and it's intimate to think about someone nonstop for that long. I just love that form of communication.

Pen pal letters...post it note doodles...mini folded zines...tiny abstract paintings...fun stickers...etc.! I've even printed out silly internet memes and made paper collages with them. Postal correspondence is a great way to brighten someone's day...and opening your mailbox to find an envelope hand-addressed to you with Good Stuff inside from someone you care about? It sure beats just getting bills and junk mail!

even if shit continues to hit the fan, pretty much everyone ends up exactly where they’re supposed to be. you will find a place to live, a job, a lover, friends, etc. just keep going and it will be ok.
