Rec | CHECKING OUT THE OPENING ACTS

no one asked (right now) but my surefire way to find something new and good to listen to is opening artists. im seeing a couple of my favorite bands this summer and between the two shows there are like five artists i had never checked out. ive been in a listening rut recently so this is the perfect pool to check out from, and let me tell you i think i found a new favorite band. even if you don’t have any shows coming up, check out who your fave artists are bringing on tour! if they like them enough to bring em out, good chance the listeners will too. __________________________ tangent time: if you were curious, i’m seeing heart attack man and my chemical romance in july. violent femmes are opening for mcr and ive always put listening to them off for whatever reason. but maaaan am i glad i checked them out (and so is my dad). that self titled album is amazing. the dirty nil (and like three other bands) are opening for hammy. first time i saw hammy, arms length was the second opener and holy fuck it was one of the best live sets i had ever seen. i checked them out after and boom. new favorite band. anyway, my partner really likes the dirty nil and im finally checking them out. shoulda listened to him, this shit is sooooo good. like a more polished frights kinda thing. getting real excited to see them live! god sometimes i love having adhd

I have gone to shows specifically because my faves were opening lol, but also I've made some new faves from openers I didn't know before! I got into Tejon Street Corner Thieves and Bridge City Sinners from them touring with Amigo the Devil for instance :)

me when i saw hammy and arms length a couple years ago and photocopy opened for them! so good. discovered sooo many great artists this way

@DEARDOVESWINGS was that the freak of nature tour? photocopy was the first opener but we got there a lil late and missed them. i saw super american tho and really enjoyed them! honestly i was so enamored by arms length i totally forgot to even check out super american either. two bands on the listening list for me then, thank you!

@ROOGBY it was! i admittedly only went for arms length but am a casual hammy enjoyer. i highly suggest checking photocopy out more than anything they honestly have like a twangy but almost shoegaze thing going on at times. super american’s set had great energy but i’m admittedly eh abt their newest album. the stuff before that is great though!

Opening acts

I feel like I’ve picked up so much good music by just instantly downloading an opening act’s album right after their set. Just saw Wishy at baby’s all right last night and they had a band called Plastic open up, tight band & tight name, I’m sold. I feel like too many people skip the opener and I get it it can get tiring but I already know I’m gonna like the headliner lemme get a nice little surprise. this has GOT to be my last music rec for a little bit…

Laughing Without Smiling / Spit - heart attack man

hammy nation rise up, they’ve done it again. i really respect that theyve consistently put out music that’s untouched by trends, especially within the emo/pop punk/whatever scene. eric’s lyrics on these ones are especially biting i love it. great follow up to their last album, i can’t wait for more! if you haven’t checked out heart attack man, you haaaave to if you’re a fan of punk pop/rock in the last 20 years. it’s like. pop punk written by hardcore guys. their live shows are amazing too, the energy from the band and crowd is always raw fun. i’m a real big fan especially of their last album freak of nature, but my fave is their ep thoughtz & prayerz

slight bias cause it’s my boyfriend’s band so i’ve seen em 20+ times lol but i genuinely love to go see em and think they put on a killer show!!! you should check them out if ur into post-punk stuff…..

my chameleon died this morning and i buried him in my mom’s backyard. i had a lot of ladders in his cage, he seemed to really like to zip around on em. it was hard to see him lose mobility in his old age, but i like to remember him as a climber. rest in peace mr. princess
